In this video, we take a look at the all-new Raspberry Pi 4 8GB version and try to decide if it’s worth the upgrade or not.
We also test it out with the new 64bit version of Raspberry Pi OS “previously known as Raspbian” and try to see if we can use all 8GB’s of Ram!

"99% of people won't need the 8GB model.."

Who can sleep at night knowing there's a model available with more RAM, though?

It's amazing how much the pi's have progressed in such a short time.

The 8GB model would be more appealing if the cpu was upgraded as well. A 6 core ARM processor with 8GB of ram for $75 would be great

I reall don't get the "this is not the point of the pi"... when the pi came out it costed around 35 and it had 256 ram. Now with that money you can get 2 gb of ram with a quadcore. Plus, IF YOU FANCY, you can get up to 8GB of ram.
PLUS! if you're looking for something really basic and efficient there's the zero.
So the product range is at the same price when it come out, its more powerful, there are more options plus they added another model for very basic projects.
I really really really don't see what's the problem (neither the people that are buying these like hot cakes)

This is a good step in a direction for the pi to start taking over for your daily driver. With the Memory not being one of the limiting factors, devs can start to make more of their os builds. This version of Pi OS looks very beautiful as well. People will love making there own mac version on the pi and showing off to there friends with mac books. Can not wait to see what comes in the future from the Pi people. I will keep watching your channel for the future of this. Thanks for all your good work. I depend on your videos to keep me up to date. I am headed for your Patreon page now.

Hey man, Chrome tabs with different websites on them is exactly the type of real world use case scenario people want to see.
Even 2 or 3 windows with 10 - 15+ tabs on each. File explorer (multiple windows) with network file transfer etc.

Still truly blows me away that these little SBC Raspberry Pi's ABSOLUTELY SMOKE the giant ass tower computers we used doing the same things, back in the mid-late 90's to early 2000's... And it's the size of a freaking Credit

Ultimately, there comes a time in everyone's life when they groan and think, "ffs why didn't i buy more ram". No such thing as too much ram. Worth it every time.

Thanks for the mindfulness of answering the question early on of whether 8GB will make a difference to emulation or not. Refreshing as a lot of content creators on youtube seem to be blind to what their audience will want (leaving people watching whole videos for the answer to one question). Love yer stuff, man, keep going.

As a big fan of the Raspberry Pi series, I could not resist buying a Pi 4 (8GB model) even though I have been using the 4GB model since its release. Although I agree that there really is not much different about this new model (except with more memory overhead for some programs), I did notice a big difference between my 4GB and 8GB models in overclocking.

It seems that my 8GB model is able to overclock much higher than my 4GB model! My old 4GB model (with ICE cooler) was able to manage up to 2300Mhz on the CPU and 750Mhz on the GPU (force turbo set to 1 and overvolt set to 9). It was stable in emulation, desktop usage, and sysbench, but I saw immediate crashes when running the stress-ng benchmark. To my surprise, when I loaded the same config settings to my 8GB model (also equipped with ICE cooler) it was fully stable at 2.3Ghz in stress-ng with temps never rising above 50 deg C. With the enthusiast in me being greedy, I decided to put my shiny new Pi 4 on the line for science, and I pushed it up to 2.4Ghz and was shocked to see it still fully stable in stress testing with no thermal or power throttling at all.

It may be just me winning the silicon lottery with this unit, but I suspect firmware updates since release and maybe some of the power managements circuitry changes made to the 8GB may have improved power efficiency enough to allow for higher overclocks compared to the initial release models. I'm curious to see if anyone else has had similar experiences?

4 gb is the sweet spot for that processor's performance, there aren't very many ram intensive things you'd wanna compute on a Pi. Unless it's the only computer you use of course, then 8gb might sound nice, but you'll get fed up with the processor before having any issues with memory.

I can't wait for the finished 64bit OS to see what it can do.

I am very happy with my new RPI4 8GB, the only thing I noticed is that it runs a bit hotter than my RPI 4GB. Did you experience the same?
