Today you will learn about VFDs. Specifically, what they are and when do we use them with automation and PLCs.

What exactly is a VFD? Well, it stands for Variable Frequency Drive. They are used for running an AC motor at variable speeds or let them ramp up their speed to give them a smooth startup.

Some people simply call them drives. They work by adjusting the frequency of the motor to adjust the rpms.

Just finished watching your "what is a VFD?" video and, once again, the explanation was excellent, especially useful was the analogy of the water control pipeline. I started to read up about VFDs on a well-known online encyclopedia and was blinded with science. Your explanation was pitched perfectly and just what I needed as I'm working on updating our PLC to control an inverter for a water pump. Perfect, keep up the good work. Cheers!

Exceptional video lesson with an impeccable subject of a state-of-the-art equipment which is becoming indispensable in the most varied processes.
It is fascinating to understand the conversion of AC input energy into DC energy and going out simulating an AC senoid through the width of pulses having the ability to control the speed of electric motors by frequency.
Thank you very much and congratulations on the excellent work.

I'm from the city of Manaus, in the State of Amazonas, Brazil, country, located right in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, where incredibly there are several of these equipment, and I accompany you.

I work for a major American city's, public works department, and Plc's and scada systems, and even one vfd system is in use.

Anyone else here a confused Yugioh player who knows this got recommended because it has VFD in the title but just baffled at how messed up the youtube algorithm is?

Thanks for the video real pars.
Pls show a video on how to use a PLC to control the consumer unit of a residential building.
Thanks

Dear, please share your knowledge on points 1) How to do wiring , i mean power wiring + control wiring of a VFD and its hook up with PLC 2) What are the configuration settings to be done inside the VFD for Siemens and Allenbradley ones 3) how to build a control logic for the same by using PLC programming. Kindly do the needful. You people are awesome, love u all

Thanks for the video this just made my idea of a off grid induction motor and centrifugal pump to pressurize the water to drive pelton turbines for my hydro electric system a reality for my bitcoin mining operation, simply put much like the video i was wondering how i could control the pump speed for pressure to drive the pelton turbines to have more control on the overal out put of the generators also the electric motor is also powered by the same generators currently figuring out how to switch power sources for shutdowns for maintenance purposes where i would have to hydro systems to switch between to service but maintain electricity.

Your analogy of the capacitor being like a water filter is a poor one. The cap is there to resist Voltage sag if there is a load spike upon the rectifier. An apt analogy might would be an air bladder pressure tank in a water system there to maintain water pressure even if the putput is temporarily greater than what the pump can produce

Awesome job! Love these presentations. I will be building a Tumbler operating using a VFD controller on the motor. I am making a video of it now too.

Thanks for the insightful comparison of electronic components to hydrologic systems . This opened a couple of doors quickly for me. To get an understanding of how a PLC interacts with a VFD has given me some confidence in my new job as a Flexographic printing Mechanic. It is my hope to not only comprehend but to be able to program fully automated six color presses to accommodate changes in production requirements across a wide variety of material and ink types. This work is gratifying and worthwhile for me and your program is now on my radar. Keep up the good work many thanks.
