How to Insert a Tampon | Beginner Period Tips

Inserting a tampon for the first time may take a few tries to get used to, but we're here to help you through the process! Use the applicator to guide the tampon into your body, and then use the plunger to place the tampon into the right place. The string of the tampon should hang out of your body, which is how you'll remove it once it's full!

Hello! If you are scared of tampons im here to tell you as I just started tampons,
Dont be scared! It isnt as scary as you think, try to be calm when doing so and start with a plastic applicator until you're used to it
Experiment! Dont be afraid to experiment or practice with putting one in. But PLEASE do not put a tampon in when you're outside your period as removing a dry tampon is really painful as it is, and when its completely dry it can be really hard and painful! I recommend using something similar or using the applicator without the tampon.
Tampons can get stuck! Whatever you do dont put the string up there with the tampon, if you do you should tell a trusted adult and see a doctor to help get it removed
Please *DO NOT* exceed wearing a tampon for over 8 hours as it can lead to infections and TSS (toxic shock syndrome)
Yes! It may feel weird after your first few times, a tip I got is "If you cant feel it, you did it correctly" a tampon should not hurt when inserted.
Dry tampons can get SOO annoying, what I recommend is bathing yourself or soaking yourself as it will help expand the tampon, go slowly and stay calm as it most likely will be painful
You dont have to switch! If you're more comftorable with stuff like a pad or period underwear then thats fine! What I also find helpful is to wear tampons when you're awake, and pads when you're asleep as it isnt as risky as leaving a tampon in during sleep.
find what size fits you, theres multiple sizes that you should probably understand before using tampons, the smallest and for light bloodflows is the "Light" option, the next option above that is regular, then super, then super plus. They all hold different ammounts of blood so its important to find what suits you best
You can buy multipacks to get the idea, but once you understand how your body works you can rely on one size more than others
Tampons dont take your virginity or "pop a cherry" it is a common misconception but you will not loose your virginity
Your tampon cant get lost! Once inserted it cant move past your cervix as its basically a wall with a teeny tiny hole that only blood can pass through, a dead end essentially


Went over this already but please dont forget your tampons! 8 hours at most is the time to leave them in.

This is a very good video and demonstration. As you can tell, the applicator and tampon go inside your vagina a lot deeper than most people think or realize, so if you insert it wrong, chances are it will be painful. Thank you for showing the right way.

I was super scared to use one at first but i just stayed to think of how much better it will be and easier than a pad. If you don’t think about it as much you won’t clench and it will be easier to put it. I like to play my fav music when i’m putting one in to calm me down.
