Is this the perfect bushcraft axe? In this video, I review the Gränsfors Small Forest Axe, the favourite axe of Ray Mears. I have found it to be just the right size for both backpacking and bushcrafting, an awesome axe, a handcrafted piece of Scandinavian cultural heritage.

I just purchased this exact axe myself. I am very intrigued to try it out, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on it and a great look at how it performs. Subscribed to your channel earlier this year and I have to say I appreciate your way of looking at the world and the way you choose to convey your thoughts. All the best.

I recently bought the gransfors carpenter’s axe- the same length as the small forest but with a straight haft and face. Amazing things, like a knife, a chisel and an axe all combined into one perfectly weighted and packable tool!

I have the same axe, a Christmas present from my wife. I love it.

The three people who disliked this do not know a good life when it is presented beautifully like in this video.

It’s also a favorite of Mr. Cody of Wrangler Star. Don’t know how someone could criticize this video

I read someplace that a man in the woods with a knife will live well. A man in the woods with an axe will live like a king. I use Estwing, Husquavarna, and Man Made axes. Someday, I will own a Gransfors.

It's a superb axe. I've had mine for years, It's never let me down, and I've never felt the need or desire to replace it.

Great video. Love my Small Forest Axe. Thanks for giving the correct pronunciation of Gransfors. Love the hat too. Very musketeer.

When I split logs like that, I drive the head in enough to keep it from slipping out, then just pound down with the axe and log on the solid surface I'm using to split on. A twist of the wrist as it hits usually does it....
The Small forest Axe is the perfect size for bushcraft; smaller than a full axe, but much more useful than a hatchet.

I have the same axe Bjorn! I couldn’t agree more. I felled a large standing dead maple on my last interior trip with it and it made for some wonderful firewood and additional campfire benches. Thanks for the video!

I recently got one. It's something to hold to believe. Awesome axe to wield with one hand. I can feel it's strength, and it's as though there isn't anything that I couldn't cut through. Honestly, it makes me feel like Thor when I heft it. Cheers.

I have never seen anyone turn the wood over to split it...I absolutely love it. Makes sense, thanks.

I really enjoyed this video, not because of the axe itself but of the different methods used, my home is east Tennessee, thanks for sharing your knowledge

I totally agree with your assessment of this small axe. It is what I carry, although, since I've gotten older it seems to be carried more in my my truck than on my pack.
