Been doing Karaoke weekly for the last 3 years. Song choice absolutely is everything! I like to choose songs that people know, but haven't heard in a very long time. Just this last week was Zoot Suit Riot and everyone had a blast singing along!

*Tip #7: Know, know, KNOW the songs you sing.* As you build your “standard repertoire, ” pick songs that you know by heart, or damn near by heart. And if there’s a song you wanna add but don’t quite know it by heart, learn it. Obsess over it. Listen to it over and over and over again, until it’s in your bones. The video monitor should be your backup in a forgetful moment, not your go-to to pull you through.

I am A Karaoke host, guests say to me..."But you can sing" and I cant, so I tell them that neither of us will ever sing on stage in Vegas...so just enjoy yourself and lets have fun...That's Karaoke...sing from the heart and your half way there

I used to objectively SUCK on karaoke years ago.

Not a good balanced sing skills and mic control... But people respected me because I had big balls to sing difficult musics and my charisma.

Really fun Lucas - I am doing something a little different - but most of your help still applies. After a lifetime of singing alone, thinking I have a decent rock voice, and knowing I have good timing, I am using Audacity to remove studio vocals and adding my own vocal over the top. My project: sing a 'rock block' for my wife on our 30th anniversary.... so I got my local DJ to send an audio snip introducing it - then I provide the vocals for AC/DC (Overdose), Matthew Sweet (Girlfriend), JET (Are You Gonna Be My Girl), Night Ranger (Sing Me Away). She will think this is on the radio - but I will burn it to CD. Just today, I completed the production process. The only thing left to do is burn the CD. But I'd like the vocal quality to be a little better. I think I selected songs in the right range... and know I am singing words sincerely.... but I'll check your list again and re-record at least a couple of these. Thanks for the guidance.

Thanks so much. Your tips are building my confidence and also anticipation. My husband and I are going on a cruise for the first time next month. I want to sing some songs and dedicate them to him. At least ONE anyway. I am 78 years old and he will be 80. We have been married 58 years. I have done very little karaoke and only for friends just locally but used to sing more in younger years like at a wedding now and then but not karaoke. I think I sound quite a bit like Olivia Newton-John and was called that by a young man after singing her song so I think her key and range suits me well. I have been practicing the songs a lot, trying to strengthen my lungs and breath control to prepare. I want him to be proud of me and also the friends with us. Do you have any tips on how I can work on my vibrato to keep it sounding less wavy and more tight, if you understand what I mean?

thanks for these tips. I've entered a karaoke competition and the song I thought for sure ticked all these boxes isn't available in karaoke version so I found myself fussing over one song or other trying to decide what else i could do. I've settled on something now and will just have to be content with trying my best to mean the words andhave fun, wish me luck y'all. I'll be back with a report soon lol😂

If I'm being honest, I'm not going to do karaoke with friends anytime soon lol. I'm just trying to get better singing (I'm thirteen lol) because I want to be in a band when I'm older. I'm gonna buy a mic with my money and want better tips with microphones. Thank you for the tips (you're an amazing singer btw)🤣

I've been doing karaoke for a few years. Never thought I would. I never sing a song I don't know. And I practice any new songs that I want to do. For at least a week (daily) before I attempt it in public.
