Typically when people say stuff like "I'm good" as an automatic response, I like to look right at them, give them the most genuine smile I can muster, and say "I'm glad to hear that, dude!" A lot of the time this throws people off, but usually in a good way. It breaks down this whole silly greeting protocol and makes everyone act a bit more human.

I really don't know how to greet people. It's even worse when I am the last one to arrive in a group that I don't know very well... I never know what to do… weird!

one time, when I was 13, this my 5th cousin that I had never met came up to me and did the weird 2 kisses on the cheek thing, and I screamed.

"I'm good" is actually grammatically correct and probably the best way to answer "How are you?" Contrary to popular belief, saying "I'm well" isn't an ideal answer to the aforementioned question. Adjectives go after linking verbs. "Well" is an both an adjective and adverb so it CAN fit - it's just that, as an adjective, "well" is generally reserved to mean "healthy." "How are you?" really just asks whether the person's day is good and isn't specifically asking about one's health, per se.

Them: "Hi, nice to meet you."
Me: "Rub me."

If anything it makes for stimulating conversation.

I sometimes think so much about people that I forget if I actually ever said hello to them or not.

am is a conjugated form of to be. To be is a linking verb here, which means that it takes a predicative adjective, not an adverb. We say things like I’m hungry, not I’m hungrily. An adjective is what you need here, without question.

I like to just say hi and smile.
Really. No contact is needed for the person to feel greeted if this is done preperly.

No, we do not. In Finland (part of Europe) handshake is something one may do with one's best friend. And greeting strangers on the steer is a big no-no

@07SapphireLights Not necessarily. In this case "I am good." is referring to how the person is feeling. The 'be' verb is used as a linking verb. The 'good' is an adjectival operating as a subject compliment; 'well' can also be used at times as an adjectival hence "I am well."

I'm just glad there is one of these films for every basic aspect of life.

I like to be greeted with mutual awkwardness.

It should be addressed how when shaking hands, the space between the thumb and fingers should be in full contact with each other. This avoids the "pinch handshake" where your fingers are caught and held between their thumb and fingers, (see diagram)* thus resulting in a limp-noodle handshake. I have found this to be more common when greeting old people.

I tend to wave to someone I know I see out shopping, driving, etc.

If it's for an interview or a business situation, I smile and give a firm handshake. But I too wonder where that hand just was...

When I worked at the credit union, I greeted customers with the classic "How are you today?"

My family is not too big on hugging. We just say "Hey..I'm here" or "Bye I'm leaving."

Be firm with your grip.
This is the most important point. I meet a lot of people and most of them have weak handshakes. A weak handshake suggests they arent that comfortable around you or that they are nervous or distracted. A firm handshake shows you're confident.. just don't do the construction worker hand-crush. Firm people! Not noodle, and not granite... find the happy medium!
