What a nice video! Thank you for meeting these guests and putting this vlog together. Yes, Sveta is absolutely right - they used to teach foreign language grammar in Russia and absolutely ignored listening-speaking practice. When I moved to US, I could read and understand what I read but I would absolutely be lost if the same exact information was told to me in a spoken manner. It took time for my ears to catch a foreign sound, differentiate the words and make a meaningful sense out of it simultaneously. Joe, one day you ll understand Russian and you won't even register that all of a sudden you reciprocate information so effortlessly, it takes time but time does it.

Lots of people speak English in Russia. But I was surprised, when I visited France, to find that most people there don’t speak English.

Moscow looks gorgeous. Last time I was there was in 2021. And I was amazed how convenient it was there. Clean and safe. Sending hugs to this Slovenian guy!

I think in a such elite business area you can easily find English speakers.

I had an American tourist approach me on Red Square and ask me if I spoke English. I said, "No, not a word." and walked away.
I bet she was confused.

I lived in Germany in my younger years and learned several languages in Highschool - naturally English, but in former East Germany also the Russian language. I learned some Russian right after world war 2, when I lived together with some Russian soldiers. I am not impressed by tall buildings, because they also have their problems - living for a long time in Chicago.

As a native New Yorker, who travels through Penn Station quite often, Moscow City looks very similar, and much cleaner!

I like Anna's English. It's fluent, with some Russian word-inserts, bluffy-accent but it's cool! Respect to her not-being shy! Thanks to you, Joseph! People need this kind of content.
Still waiting for you to visit some Russian regional centers (not only Moscow region)) or some kind of video "Across Russia with Roses" 😊

on the one hand: English is the language of international communication... and on the other hand, the Russian people are self-sufficient and we don't particularly need to learn English

English and Английский
English and Russian suffixes -ский and -ish are related. So learning Russian is like learning a dialect.)

Russians (at least some) can speak quite decent English, i think someone like me who only knows da and niet could probably get by in Russia until i learned Russian. learning the local language of a country you visit i would consider simply the right thing to do "when in rome" applys to this subject.
another very good informative video for those who are interested in going to Russia.

a little off topic but while watching your videos (and other expats videos) ia thing i have noticed is how clean Russian citys look, my city Edinburgh has trash discarded in the streets because people are too lazy to walk 15 yards to a public bin with their empty coke can or water bottle....which disgusts me

I would also note such a thing that is important for the locals. Before the construction of Moscow City, this area of the city was the outskirts. There, in that place, there were wastelands and five-story buildings, semi-abandoned industrial zones and former "working quarters" that were not the best for life. Now it is the second center of the city, in fact. It is not always obvious to visitors and new Muscovites how much Moscow has actually changed over the past 20 years.

When I see that English speakers are lost in Moscow or need some other help because no one can understand them I usually come to them and offer help😊
