Fixing Discord’s Biggest Privacy Flaw with a Loophole…

Want to delete all your messages in Discord? Well Discord says no, but I say yes.

Why would you want to delete your discord messages? Well Discord doesn't delete your messages when you delete your account. So if you are trying to get away from a bad situation, your messages will still stay on every server you've been in. This allows creeps or any bad actor to go through your messages and determine other ways to contact you.

However, it turns out while I've been talking about Discord stuff and weird servers, privacy nerds (i love you guys 💖) have been figuring out how to delete all their messages on Discord. And it requires a little loophole :)

Also for the Discord employee that is being forced to watch this, please just add a mass delete message feature or something...

The fact that discord lately been suspending anyone's account who has been reported without even letting the suspect take action is wild

…I can’t believe I just saw a Discord sanction message that says “Teenagers need to be responsible for what they say”, it’s like being at High School announcement about how to deal with bullying and how it’s not their job to help the victims.

GDPR is also the law that requires companies to separate the "I have read the terms" and "I want to receive marketing newsletter" with the latter having to be optional and opt-in. (Regardless of what the company may say, consent is mandatory.)

THIS is something I've been asking for YEARS. Back when I was 13, I sent a compromizing image to a real life "friend" because I was pressured into doing so. I deleted my Discord account expecting everything I wrote and posted to be deleted and scraped off their database/CDN... But, to my surprise, it wasn't. My "friend" still had the link to that compromised image (this was years before links expired) and there was quite literally nothing I could do to delete that image. I lived in fucking torment for a few years because he, along with other people, would constantly threaten me with sending the link to that image to other people in my IRL circles. It was hell on earth. I tried everything from Support to asking around and nobody could help me with removing that image as "Deleted Users can't have any more data removed from them".

It's completely fucking unacceptable that Discord gets away with just "anonimizing" messages. Actual bullshit. My condoleances to anybody who has ever been affected by this. My sincerest middle finger to discord.

Large companies try not to leave you private data exposed (IMPOSSIBLE EDITION)

discord actually USED to have this feature, but sadly got removed. it was called "asking someone to ban you, and delete all messages". now the max is a week

I once spent a full week deleting 84K messages because my ex turned out to be a predator. There should be an easier way to deal with this. I should not be in fear of my life, as well as the other victims, because Discord doesn't allow me to get rid of messages for the sake of the "continuity". This some bullshit! Deleting your account should delete your messages. It's not just a discord issue but on other sites and apps as well.

I contacted you about bulk deletion about a year ago and you were very kind to respond to my dm.

I appreciate that you make this video because as you said; young teens get groomed on Discord a lot, and it's hard to move on when you know all your chat history is still out there for weirdos to see and share or whatever they do with it.

The biggest Discord privacy flaw is that they exist as a company like average roblox moderation

judging by the thumbnail, i think we REALLY need a button like that.

also a video to be recommended after 30 seconds of it being published, wow.

UPDATE: i tried it and discord replied with some random ahh shi, didn't delete a single message 💀

another update: guys it actually worked

One positive of this getting popular is that Discord will end up creating this feature (hopefully) to avoid having to deal with it with their teams.

I think that if someone in the EU sues Discord about this privacy thing, they will quickly run out of nonsense (as they say in my country). Discord is becoming more and more annoying to report or request data when it is a right, and more so in this era when they want to make Discord for all ages and sell themselves as a "safe" platform for minors when it is just another of the bunch that thinks in numbers .

They've already implemented an auto reply to any discord privacy tickets saying "these requests don't belong here", then they just redirect you to the general support prompt which just get ignored. What an absolute joke.

Imagine deactivating an account then forgot all the bs messages you send in there...

as a teenager, discord's 'teens should protect each other' is kinda ironic. Considering puberty and the need to make fun of others (which theres a lot of those), they will not protect it. They all would rather send your personal info (you sent to a person you trust but had a fight and they sent it to a bunch of other teenagers) to a server they own. You can honestly report it but with discord's issue with sorting reports, i doubt anything would happen lmao

I swear, EU saved:
Youtube ad's
Apple's chargers
Discord's safety
Windows being shit
Probably more, got too lazy to write more xD

bro I hate when I get harrassed on servers, and then banned so I become a laughing stock and I cant do anything about it. hear me out, if you get banned, your messages should get auto deleted.

yo guys! I know someone who had discord and too "politely" spit in front of discord's dry responss regarding deleting their messages. IIRC, at some point they gave them a google drive link to a "template CSV file" to supposedly fill in *manually* (in the format of "channel_id, message_id")

He somehow managed to get thru all his messages in a few hours and gave back the CSV they requested, but they refused the csv "because it doesn't work". Then they emailed him *again* with the same template to fill in. He did it again *manually* (not copy-pasted)

Discord support still said the same thing. It wasn't the encoding, it wasn't the messages. Everything was latin, in the format they requested.

Despite the repeated insistingness of PROVING they deleted messages via video or enough screenshots, they did none. Not even "called" him or found another solution. They just left him on hold indefinitely.

What can I do to help him???
