Lyrics:

You may keep me in
In between your walls
Ban me from traveling
And tell me not to sing

And you may have your thoughts
A sketch of who I am
A notion you’ve conceived
A sight you want to see

But you don’t know me
No, you don’t know me

You claim to walk in love
Though mercy is your foe
You’ve already dug a grave
Now you hope I misbehave

You say you know the cause
Of every shattered dream
Even when there’s none to blame
You always shout my name

But I don’t owe you
I’ve never owed you

You may keep me here
You seem to know just how
To pin me to the ground
Each time you come around

Take away my home
Obscuring what I am
And plague me all night long
And lay claim to Freedom’s song

But you don’t own me
No, you don’t own me

I don't think that every singer is an artist but...This man... He is the art.

How did we go from First Disciple to Fascination to You Don't Own Me in just four months??? THE RANGE, THE VERSATILITY?? With the new album just 10 days away, I'm ready to have my mind blown through a concrete ceiling 🙏😭

2:30 he plays the piano and a hand comes in and pulls it back. this is some beautiful cinematography makes me feel the song on whole another level. the colours are heavenly.

His voice sounds like a cello. Soothing but emotional. What an amazing artist.

as someone with toxic controlling and overprotective parents, this song speaks so much to me

the "let my people go" in the beggining and end of the video is from the song Go Down Moses by Louis Armstrong, a song that tells the story about the hebrews escaping from Egypt where they were slaves. Brilliant

This song hits like a freight train. Powerful, poetic, and there's none of the flashiness other artists use as substitute for substance. Tamino songs are pure substance and very substantial. I am going to mull this song's many meanings over in my head for a very long time.

I shed a tear when he's "freed" at the end. Hearing this song made me a bit more aware of how we're so chained to the little things of everyday, bound to people and to ourselves as well. I sometimes feel like I'm a prisoner to myself and while I was listening to this, I realised I don't know, owe or own myself either. There's no truer freedom than being free from your own mental image of who you're supposed to be.

Oh the feeling of being trapped, suffocated, of invasion and harassment, the pure oppression and struggle. It communicates at such different and specific levels, so many analogies we could make. It's as always a masterpiece, the singing, the lyrics, the video. And sometimes, truth be told, we only need ourselves to keep us feeling imprisoned. Amazing!

all of your songs are just pure magic and absolute masterpieces, but this one hits different, because it's so relatable. the lyrics and the video both explain the feeling of the song so well. feeling judged, controlled, held under unrealistic expectations, being perceived as someone you're not. it's just perfect. i've been a fan for many years and i can say you're getting better and better as time goes by. i love you and your work, can't wait for the album <3

It’s amazing how many different ways this song can be interpreted. I just discovered this song and it really touched me so much, I’ve been going through a very tough time dealing with trauma from when I was assaulted by a man last year. He plagues my thoughts and even tho I’m safe and hundreds of miles away from him I still feel as though he controls me and owns my body because of what he did against my will. This song was written so beautifully and the vocals are heavenly, it really touched my soul and made me feel some relief and freedom.

Your voice feels different, a special power. I am also a cello artist. And you are the most important artist to me. I hope to share the same stage with you one day. When I hear your voice, I feel relaxed. You are unique. Best musician in the world. Hope I will see you again ❤️🥰 Love you so much nice voice man🦦🪕

I'm proud of this man and I think his grandfather would be proud too, his grandfather was one of my father's favourite artists of all time, here in Egypt we should appreciate his art more.

I lost my health trying to pass my medschool exams. All the awful things I heard from people on my way to become a doctor- this song hits so hard. It's a masterpiece, so many people in comments relate to it personally. I'm happy to be a listener.
