How do I make it not waste the rest of the clip? I want it so if a marker is 5 seconds long and it automated a 30 second clip into it, I want the remainder of the clip to not be deleted, i want to reuse it for another market

Hey I use this feature a lot and sometimes have a really weird problem. Some clips are empty until I drag them really far to the left side, as if to the point of beginning. It can literally be an hour's worth of a clip, until I get to a point where I can see something in it. How can I fix this ?
