It was an amateur wrestling match, not a submission wrestling match. Double wrist lock/kimura is illegal under every amateur wrestling rule set. And even if it wasn’t, and was a catch as catch can style match—you put yourself on your back and pinned yourself to lock it in, so you lost either way.

For context, Kurt had neck surgery not long before this and was in no real shape to be doing any kind of shoot match with anyone. The company knew, and insisted he do it anyway. Of course he got embarrassed, especially since he already wrestled another guy first (and quickly beat him) before challenging Puder and was already visibly a little blown up.

Also, did they ever make it REAL clear before the match that submission holds were supposed to be banned? I don't remember them ever mentioning that on TV that night.

People don’t understand that it’s all a script to have Angle beat all of them up and push a storyline. Not sure why this is going over peoples heads who are saying “if it was a real fight” or this & that. Kid didn’t follow the script so it cost him. If any actor in Hollywood can’t follow a script for a movie then he/ she doesn’t have a job plain and simple.
