Boris Johnson has thanked the British public "for the trust that you have placed in us and in me".

Speaking from Downing Street, the Prime Minister has vowed to "work around the clock" after a historic win.

He added: "I want to speak to those who did not vote for us, for me and perhaps wanted to remain in the EU.

"We will never ignore your good and positive feelings."
