Safety should never be a deduction for anyone.

I had pretty bad accident whilst vaulting. Could have been avoided if my coach was standing there. Pretty sure many injuries can be avoided through this and many gymnast would feel more secure.

They should move the judging panel so even if the coach is there, it wouldn’t obstruct their view

i think the absolutely safety of the athletes should be #1 priority and forcing them to take measures which risk their safety for points is ridiculous

Imagine being penalized for increasing your safety

That is so unfair because on bars you can get a deduction if a coach isn’t standing between the bars

It's not like the coach is helping her win. He's just helping her stay alive.

That coach that catches the kid about to break his neck is an absolute legend!!

This rule really doesn't make sense, but is this also the first time someone has needed to break it? Anyway, but I'm happy for Rebeca 🇧🇷

While I do think the rule should be abolished, I do think that Rebecca rightfully earned the vault title, her vaults were near perfect and I feel like although Simone is competing the hardest vault in the world, I think it would be bittersweet for her to win gold with a fall. That been said her still taking second is a huge testament to how insanely good she is as a gymnast.

I'm pretty sure that FALLING is what cost her the gold.
If gymnasts aren't ready to safely perform a vault without a spot, they shouldn't be competing it. So if they choose to have a spot they should be penalized.
There would likely be MORE accidents if they removed this deduction, because more athletes would likely be attempting vaults they aren't fully prepared to do.

For a vault, the coach merely standing there should not be a deduction. It should be a requirement.

That always pissed me off, I used to be a coach for gymnastics and I always wanted to make sure none of the athletes were going to get hurt, and because of the 0.5 deduction on vault I didn't stand on the mat and ones of the athletes broke her leg

Rebeca Andrade was amazing!! We are really proud of her!! 💛💚

I don’t think it’s fair tbh because in my opinion on vault you have so much momentum but you can’t really control it but on bars you can control how high and fast you swing

Andrade is a fierce competitor I bet Biles was just happy to see her girl shine 🩷🩷🩷

Ian, you are right. But I also agree with people who say that a fall on vault should be penalized with more than a 1.0 deduction, since a good landing a much greater part of the routine on Vault in comparison with the other apparatuses. Besides, it would be a bizarre thing to have a routine with such a messed up fall being world champion above a great performence as the one Andrade gave. So you only mention one rule that could be changed to make an even greater sport, but there's this other one.

Definitely an unfair rule. Safety should always be the priority.

But it wasn't only that. Her second vault (Cheng) wasn't really good either. Rebeca's Cheng was way better than Simone's Cheng. So, for people saying that she would've won with a less difficult vault, I dont think she would.

It doesn't make sense that an incomplete vault, beats a completed vault at all.
