How To Make THE MOST UNIQUE Lemon Pie

When I say "lemon pie", what comes to mind?

For me it had to be lemon meringue pie until just recently. But today I'd like to share a completely different lemon pie, the Shaker Lemon Pie.

This pie is unlike anything I've ever encountered. This is a unique recipe for a citrus pie that is closer in resemblance to apple pie than the chiffon or meringues that we grew up eating.

I grate near frozen butter, into my pie dough, I also cut the water with vodka to reduce gluten formation. Thank you for this, Shaker lemon pie is my second favorite pie, behind mincemeat of course!

I once made an English dessert called Sussex Pond. It is a boiled pudding that uses a whole lemon in a tallow crust. The lemon was too strong, but the crust was quite good. Edit. I would use Meyer lemons, which are relatively sweet.
