The lava has been active on and off for a few months. They built a berm to keep lava away from some city works, I think a power plant or something. The city I believe has mostly been evacuated because the continuous earthquakes has broken streets and structures. They have been monitoring this for several months.

There was another new volcano in Iceland about two or three years ago during the start of the pandemic. It was fun to watch that one grow every day-- that one didn't go through any town, just over a highway and near a farm.

I don't hear any news about the volcano eruption last year in Italy anymore, that volcano's lava went right through a town to the ocean. There was alot of local videos of people asking for help, but it was barely in the news.
It is nature's way to build new land.
