The “hand soap” classification is referring to the antibacterial component—they can’t label it as “antibacterial dish soap” bc the active ingredient chloroxylenol can’t kill enough germs on dishes for it to be marketed for that purpose, but it will kill them on hands. However the part that says “dishwashing liquid” is still referring to the product, as it contains stronger surfactants than regular hand soap that can cut grease on dishes. The product specifications state: “Fights germs on hands* (*when used as hand soap), fights grease on dishes.” So, it’s both. Hope that clears things up!

It just means that it’s gentle enough to wash your hands with it too. That’s it. It’s not just hand soap, it’s also dish detergent. Two things can be true at the same time.

The original blue dawn when mixed with equal part hydrogen peroxide then fill rest of spray bottle with water makes a great stain remover for clothing, furniture, rugs, pet stains, blood, etc. I have been using it for years. Does not remove color, just the stinky stains

Remember Palmolive dishwashing soap, "Soft on hands but tough on dishes".... Dawn and Palmolive have been marketing their products for both purposes for over 50 years. In other words, it really doesn't matter which product you buy, because they do the same thing

No matter the color, Dawn just doesn't work like it used to. They use terms like ultra or platinum, but they aren't as powerful as the original dawn!!! Now Dawn used to make a pink hand soap but in a pinch I needed to use it to wash my hair. That was one of the smoothest shampoos I have ever had. I haven't seen it in the stores lately though.

FYI
from dawns website
Dawn Ultra Antibacterial hand soap removes 99% of bacteria on hands when used as a hand soap. It also can be used to fight grease on dishes with Dawn's legendary grease-fighting benefit.

The soap is universal and the ( antibacterial hand soap emphasis) is to let consumers know it's not just used to break down oils & greasy residue but also safe chemically for skin application without the harsh effects that other detergents have including DRY SKIN.

This is a good example of why you shouldn't believe what you see on the internet.

Actually… the green dawn is just as powerful dishwashing liquid as the blue, the green just has some added conditioners for your skin and of course is antibacterial. The blue has mainly surfactants to cut through grease and grime. But they’re both dishwashing liquid.

The "hand soap" refers to the antibacterial properties of the soap. When you use it as hand soap, it is antibacterial. When you use it as dish soap, it is not antibacterial because it is diluted.

Blue soap is for washing ducks. The baby duck is the symbol Dawn uses because they use original Dawn to clean animals caught in oil spills.

They wear gloves. Tough on grease means "pulls the oil out of your skin." Just wear gloves if you want your dishes clean and your hands to stay soft.

To be able to be listed as antibacterial it has to legally be listed as hand soap as it is considered a "drug". This has no bearing on how it cleans dishes it is just what is legally required to make an antibacterial product.

It’s dish soap WITH antibacterial hand soap in it. And 50% less scrubbing 🧽

Just means it will be antibacterial when washing hands. But when doing dishes, it's diluted, so it's not anti bacterial. Thus its both. Downfall of the internet that you can talk like an expert but not grasp the basics.

@sherrycanada892, you're absolutely right: Dawn doesn't work on grease anymore like it used to. The old commercial used to say 'Dawn gets grease out of your way'. Then it showed how ONE DROP of Dawn on top of greasy water made the grease disperse. Doesn't do that anymore and it takes A LOT MORE Dawn to clean greasy dishes. Bah!!

So, as it turns out, the Green Apple Green Dawn says “hand soap” at the top next to the word *antibacterial* its emphasis is on the fact that using this formula provides antibacterial properties when used as a hand soap, it’s still dish soap, but cannot extend the antibacterial effects to your dishes.

It’s still dish soap!!! The only reason it’s marketed as hand soap is because they say it’s antibacterial, but only when used to wash your hands it’s not antibacterial for dishes so it’s just wordplay to avoid lawsuits

That didn't " DAWN " on me until you pointed that out to us.

Cheap dishwashing soap and laundry detergent is CHEAP dishwashing soap and laundry detergent.

DAWN is the best and cuts the grease like no other.
