I don't think any general could save Western roman empire. The main thing being the economics of empire. Until partition into western and eastern parts Rome was dependent on Egypt and other African provinces that supplied grain. By the time of Aetius and Majorian connection to these provinces was more or less lost. Without steady supply of grain romans became not loyal and too rebelious

Actually they never beated the huns..the battle of catalaun plains was more of a draw, but in reality the huns remained in the battlefield, the visigoths were the first who left it, even that night because they suffered the greater, then left the romans..so after the battle, the huns and their allies went home, next year Attila looted northen italy, roma was only spared because the pope spoked eye to eye with him..(probably baptized him)
