New grad respiratory therapist here.
Make 30.70 on nights, work 36/hr/week
Additional 4.50 on weekends.
Take home about $3600 a month in the midwest ( luxury apartments / townhomes around 1200-1500 a month here) It makes a huge difference by NOT EATING FROM THE HOSPITAL CAFETERIA/ COFFEE SHOP!!

New grads, do yourself a favor- do NOT step foot in that hospital cafe .

Girl, thank you for posting this!! As an RN student graduating in a few months, this is SUPER helpful info! I go to school in Portland, but do clinicals in Washington (like PHSW). So to hear you made $33/hr knowing how much work you do is a bit outrageous for me. Thank you for helping people like me with this info 🤍

I am graduating in December from nursing school and I just wanted to as thank you for being vulnerable and honest. Out here in CA starting at my hospital is $45-$55 an hour depends on floor and all that jazz. Keep your head high and you got a new subscriber <3

My neice started her first year of nursing in the NICU making 75k a year in S.C., which is less expensive than Washington. I hope you get raises soon!

Thank you for sharing this. Nurses are still underpaid. Just for interest sake...I began working as a registered nurse in open heart ICU in 1981 at $8.10 an hour. Can you believe it! I never married. Somehow I paid the rent and auto and took care of everything on just my salary throughout the time I was nursing. I even continued to go to college and paid my college tuition out of my nursing salary. Times have changed. Good luck to you. I hope they give you a big raise after you have a year of experience!

I’m on the east coast and average here is about 33-34 and some change an hour for new grad nurses but I wouldn’t be surprised if majority starting is $30-32/hr. Sadly. Then again like you said it really does depend on which area/state/hospital you choose to work at. And what incentives they offer! Great video I enjoyed it! Thank you for being transparent!

I applied for the fall RN program and hope to get in! If not then next spring for sure! I feel you on the $100 girl, I’m blessed with schooling to be mostly paid by financial aid and I pay the rest out of pocket but I used to pay SEMESTERS out of pocket with my serving job. Thankfully being financially independent made me qualify for Pell grants to help this year. But after bills I just feel helplessly broke. 😅 really hope this nursing career will be a great financial step up from now like it was for you!

Do you compare salaries with fellow nurses?

Not bad girl. That's great honestly for a recent grad. Realistic wages. I am from NYC & not a nurse. But people gotta remember your paycheck is based on STATE !!! & YEARS OF EXPERIENCE !!! Regardless what industry you work for. It goes back to pure ignorance or high expectations BS.

i saw a nurse on ramsey show that called in, she made like 150K+ by overtiming it and killing it. Amazing profession if you hustle.

That is a lot of money for your profession. Count your blessings that you are in USA and that you have opportunities to earn so much in your profession.
That is a dream salary, even for med doctors in the most part of the world.
Yes, the cost of living is still very high over there.
But Americans can print dollars any time they want, hence salary are disproportionately and unfairly higher than anywhere else.
Work hard and diligently for that money. You are extremely well paid.
