Volkswagen Multivan 2019 review: Black Edition

Nedahl drove the Volkswagen Multivan Black Edition this week. At $63,490, before on-road costs it’s almost $15,000 more than a Hyundai iMax. So how different is it? Nedahl drove it for seven days with her family to find out.

My goodness there are some odd comments here.

The mirrors fold in, no more expensive than a Mazda 3, the gearbox works well although I too think a non DSG would have also worked well, the redeeming feature over and above a Kia carnival is the fact you CAN walk through the two front seats meaning loading the kids in and walking into your seat is a blessing rather than climbing in and out like an SUV.

Reliability is there, this for VW is what a HiAce is for Toyota, albeit much better when adapted for a family vehicle so these things are built to last.

Also odd that people think this is a big car, it’s tall sure, but it’s shorter than a Kia carnival, shorter than a Mazda CX-9 and shorter than a Toyota Kluger... how about that for surprising.

We’ve owned the T5 and now the Current T6 for 3 years - held its value better than almost everything except a Kluger (which are exceptional at that).

My only complaint (and mine is a TDI450 - 4motion so has the radar cruise, AEB, blind spot and everything else) is that the sunroof option isn’t a moon roof design, probably because the ac vents run through the roof.

I dont think she has worked out that the space between the front seats is done on purpose to allow easy access to the rest of the van without getting out, it doesn't need anymore storage it has more than enough it's just in a different place. If u put a console or something between the seats u end up not using the other storage spots making them pointless even though because you have to have a dash it creates natural storage spots. So you lose practicality as u cnt get to the back of the van and waste more obvious storage that makes more sense to be where it is. Then she brings up SUV's... one of the main arguments used for why people are obsessed with SUV's is that they are more practical, it makes no sense to compare an SUV to the van especially when the only time u mention it is when she thinks the SUV is better I.e styling but then dosnt mention them in any other way as the Van has it beat in nearly every other way. A comparison is only useful when used consistently.

Lacking slightly on safety? Are you joking? Apart from airbags, ABS and ESP, the safety cupboard (for 2019) is bare. For a family score, maybe 6/10 would be more appropriate.
