Adding APC UPS monitor to Webmin on your Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS

Just FYI, at about the 31:00 point in the video Michael has a tough time getting the apcupsd-cgi script to connect to apcupsd and restarts the computer. The real solution is to not start the apcupsd process but RESTART it instead. I read about this in another tutorial which stated that apcupsd prefers to be restarted than started if you have to stop and start it at some point. In Webmin there is a restart button for processes you just have to know to use it instead of start, again, only for this particular process. Most other processes do not have this quirk.

Just for clarity, please don’t take my other comments as criticism. I actually learned a lot about Webmin from this video. I’d already set up apcupsd (on a Raspberry Pi 4B) manually so seeing how it was done in Webmin was really an eye opener.

One note, adding the Webmin module for APC caused my webmin to refresh every 30 seconds or so and go back to the APC result regardless of what I was doing in Webmin so I removed the APC module and all was well again.

This put me on the trail of learning how to create my own module. If I just had more time to research that!

At 32:00 Michael states to ignore the stopping of the apcupsd process to run the test status command. This is incorrect. You will get errors if the apcupsd is running.

Great video. Name of the game is patience. I love that. Further more though, can you make a video on configuring apcupsd to work with a [smart-ups(mine 750, 2000tx for ex.)] with a [network management card] on linux(mine is ubuntu for ex)? Cheers

How do you get the Webmin to respond to hostname:10000? Mine only responds to my local IP [192.168.x.x:10000] It works with https with the local IP, but not with https with the hostname, which is ubuntu [by default]. Thanks for your help.

Nice explained i wonder if the pc or server can poweroff when the battery reaches 30% of its power can webmin do that?
