Yes, I agree with you. The house of Doors was a beautiful book.
Another beautiful novel is The Pianotuner by Paul(?) Mason and The Burma Sahib by Unsworth. I think you would enjoy both of them. (Both take place in Burma). Let me know what you think.😊

The new Murakami is actually out in Germany for a while now. I read it in January. It's indeed a typical Murakami novel, in magical realist mode. More than typical, almost like a mash-up of everything before, which is both a good and a bad thing. I enjoyed it a lot, but in the end, I also found it a bit heavy-handed and not quite as good as his best novels.
