Classic Canadian Sasquatch Stories - Episode 2: The Canadian Rockies

preview_player
Показать описание
For as long as human beings have braved the mountain passes and rugged trails of the Canadian Rockies, stories have been told of a huge, elusive, man-like creature that haunts the slopes. Though scarcer and more obscure than its famous West Coast counterpart, this mysterious alpine monster has nonetheless found its way into foundational ethnological treatises on Canada’s First Nations, and into seminal works on the Sasquatch phenomenon. In this piece, we will delve into classic legends of and encounters with the wildman of the Canadian Rockies.

I'm from the Stoney nakoda tribe. We do have traditions and still speak our native tongue which many other tribe don't speak there language anymore. Our traditions are still strong to this day

I'm a Vietnam Veteran and every single American enlisted person I ever met knows that the Canadians and Australians are the Very Best allies anyone could ever ask for. I served on a joint American-Canadian base and we loved them because they were completely trustworthy, willing to give their lives for Freedom, and were utterly loyal! Out and thank you again Canadians and Australians.

I live in North Idaho and found human-like tracks at least my size (13) or bigger in the snow on a remote trail (Harrison Lake, North of Sandpoint) in 2020. It was in June during the summer melt and I didn't think anything of it at the time. Afterall barefoot hiking is a thing, but being as the tracks were going through some thick snow, they'd have to be pretty dedicated. Not only do I wish I took a picture, but that I looked a little closer, because if I remember correctly they were going up the train but not back down. The snow eventually got way too deep to continue without snowshoes and there's no way a human could've hiked through barefoot.
.
You can choose to believe me or not, but I'll never forget what I saw because it legitimately made me question my beliefs looking back on it

True story, and this is in the states, but worth sharing.
About 40 years ago I was 10 and my younger sister 8, we had a sighting.
We grew up in the rural mountains of Western Pennsylvania and was always exploring the forest. We were headed towards an old orchard which had become almost completely encroached upon by the forest but still had maybe 2 or 3 remaining apple trees. About 50 feet away we froze, because there in front of us we seen what I can only say was a bigfoot. It was picking apples with its it's back to us, I swear on this.
It never turned to look at us, or appeared to care we were even there. I've thought about this and figure it seen us, knew we were children and wasn't a threat. Surely it heard our approach as we crunched along on forest floor of leaves and sticks, so what else could it be?
Anyways, my young instincts told me not to run. Before us was a large oak probably another 5-10 feet further ahead between us and it. We slowly positioned ourselves as to blocked our view then carefully walked until behind it and hid.
To be honest our foolish child minds thought, if we couldn't see it, it couldn't see us, but that's what we did.
I have no idea how long we hid, but when I finally peeked it was gone. We never heard it leave, or what direction it went.
I was only 10, but I know what we seen. I had seen at least 2 bear before and this was no bear. This had fingered hands and was picking apples, but was only around 6 feet tall. I don't remember anything else except how it was reaching for those apples.
A few years ago, curious about reported sightings in Pennsylvania I was pleasantly surprised to learn another, a boy of 13, reported a sighting probably 15 miles away maybe a month later. If I can find site again I'll come back and list it.

Regards from Australia. I’ve always been fascinated by the Canadian Rockies and the indigenous peoples of North America. The landscape is completely different to what I’m used to but it seems to have that same soulfulness you find in the Kimberley’s and Pilbara. It’s gods own country. Sometimes bountiful, often harsh, always unforgiving. It gets under your skin and never leaves you.

I've lived in the western foothills of the Alberta Rockies all my life and pretty well know every tree on the Eastern slopes. Plenty of stories abound. I have yet to experience anything that could be even remotely considered sasquatch related. If they do exist, they absolutely have avoided me and that kind of makes me sad lol.
My father was working as a prison guard at Nordegg when the Bighorn dam incident occurred. It had a lot of bush savvy, take no s**t kind of men spooked for a long time. My dad would re-tell that story every so often. It's neat to hear it told once again.

Thank you, H.P. I believe storytelling is a gift, which you have. Your content is a step above others.

I worked in the Alberta Rockies a lot and there is no shortage of sasquatch stories. Also, you don’t have to go to the national parks to see our large wildlife. Bear, moose, and elk are a relatively common sight even in the small towns far from the parks.

I lived in the Hinton for 10 years and I recognize most of these areas in this video .
I hunted and worked in these woods !
I’ve even seen the tree structures that they build .
I never did have an encounter but I still believe they are out there .
Thank you for all your videos ! Much love and respect from Red Deer !🙏✌🏼

Awesome as always. I love hearing those historical accounts from the First Nation's and pioneers. The fact that they had no reason to make up such tales while braving the wilderness in such a mediocre time period makes it all the better. Could you imagine witnessing such things in a time and place where the only real protection you had was a solid log cabin? Those folks showed true bravery and perseverance.

Always well done and this was no exception. It would be great to hear more First Nation stories on the topic.
