It's baloney. China supports Russia on Ukraine as it expects Russia to support China on Taiwan. Their mutual assistance and camaraderie are way deeper than the vagaries of American politics, more like the union of Canada and the U.S., and for similar reasons.

China has not explicitly asked Russia to seek a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine war. I think Beijing's reluctance to push for an immediate end to the conflict stems from its strategic interests, including the desire to counter U.S. influence and ensure stability along its borders.
