Dodge Viper ACR Was A Legendary Track BEAST

The 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is a remarkable machine designed to dominate racetracks. Dodge touts it as the fastest Viper ever built for cornering, even though it has the slowest top speed in the lineup at one hundred seventy-seven miles per hour. The secret to this performance lies not in raw power but in its mastery of aerodynamics, which trades straight-line speed for exceptional handling.

At the core of the Viper ACR is an eight-point-four-liter V ten engine, generating six hundred forty-five horsepower and six hundred pound-feet of torque. Mechanically, it shares its drivetrain with other Viper models, save for a differential with cooling fins. What sets it apart is its ability to utilize air through downforce, which pushes the car harder into the pavement, enhancing grip and cornering capability. However, this downforce also increases drag, reducing top speed.

The ACR’s aggressive design includes an adjustable rear wing, a pronounced front splitter, dive planes, and functional fender vents above the front tires to reduce lift. A rear diffuser cuts through the air for added stability. The optional ACR Extreme package takes aerodynamics even further with larger components that produce up to two thousand pounds of downforce at top speed. The trade-off is a higher drag coefficient, measured at zero point fifty-four compared to zero point thirty-seven for the standard Viper SRT.

Beyond its aerodynamics, the Viper ACR offers significant hardware upgrades. Larger carbon ceramic brakes, measuring fifteen-point-four inches in the front and fourteen-point-two inches in the rear, provide exceptional stopping power. These brakes are paired with six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers. Larger nineteen-inch front wheels accommodate these brakes, while the rear wheels retain the standard size.

Specially developed tires from Kumho, known as the Ecsta V seven hundred twenty, contribute to the ACR’s exceptional track performance. These near-slick tires feature minimal grooves for street legality while maximizing grip. The front tires are two hundred ninety-five millimeters wide, and the rear tires are three hundred fifty-five millimeters, ensuring unparalleled traction.

The ACR’s suspension system features coil-over shocks, radically stiff springs, and adjustable settings for ride height, rebound, and compression damping. This configuration enhances stability and allows for fine-tuning to suit different tracks. On the racetrack, the ACR feels composed and inspires confidence, a noticeable improvement over the twitchier handling of the Viper TA.

During testing at Virginia International Raceway, the ACR demonstrated its prowess. Engineers made adjustments, such as reducing the rear wing angle and removing front fender louvers, which improved front-end grip and cornering precision. While the ACR’s default setup can feel slightly hesitant in corners, these tweaks showed its potential for adaptability.

The Viper ACR is not a car for the faint-hearted. It demands skill and respect from its driver. Hard braking requires the car to be perfectly straight to avoid unsettling the rear, and the shifter demands a firm hand. Its aerodynamic components only reach their full potential at high speeds, meaning the car is at its best on a racetrack where it can be pushed to its limits.

On Virginia International Raceway’s straights, the ACR reached one hundred forty-seven miles per hour before entering the braking zone, slightly slower than the Viper TA’s one hundred fifty-two-point-one miles per hour. However, its superior grip and braking system allowed for later, more confident braking. The front splitter occasionally scraped the tarmac under hard braking, but it is designed to be easily replaceable.

The 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is, at its core, a race car made street legal. While it sacrifices some straight-line speed, it delivers an unparalleled track experience. Its combination of raw power, cutting-edge aerodynamics, and purpose-built hardware make it a car for enthusiasts who crave the thrill of pushing limits. For those who can handle its demands, the Viper ACR offers a unique blend of precision, adrenaline, and accomplishment.

I love the captions on videos like this, because at the end, when all I heard was that beautifully furious V10 snarl, I subsequently read "[music]". Touché, YouTube.

Com um motor desse tamanho, se tivesse 2 turbinas e um pequeno motor elétrico, ele ficaria imensamente econômico... E ainda MAIS poderoso! A Ciência é linda! Vi um carro desse na rua outro dia, que maravilha. Mas eu não acho que caberia dentro dele hahah

Imagine if dodge brought this back with today's technology. This ran a 7:01 on the ring in a NA and manual car compared to the GTD that barely beat it by 4 seconds 7 years later with more power, forced induction and DCT 😂

You took other vlogs put them together and did a voice overlay. How original 🙄

The Last of the Modern, now we get Ultra Modern Junk ! I couldn’t afford one, but if it was legal ? Might have traded the Wife for one ? Plus I’d throw in a few bucks
