Here's to rear wheel drive, manual transmissions, and people driving cars. May those three things live on forever

It is so satisfying that, in 2017, a traditional manual-transmission vehicle is still one of the fastest road cars available

He only missed those shifts because he was trying to hold on for dear life.

The whole video is more thrilling and interesting to watch than an entire season of F1.

This is the most terrifying lap I have ever watched.

I own a Viper ACR and for those that have commented about the miss-shifts, I can tell you that at modest speed and not under the intense stress the driver was experiencing, the gearbox, for me at least, is a nightmare. It is relatively tight and when shifting down it is very easy to miss the gate you are looking for. Driving this in the U.K. is an another challenge all together. You cannot see anything through the side windows which makes a roundabout almost impossible to navigate safely. All that said, and whilst it is very scary to drive, it is still very exciting, like candle hot wax on your genitalia!

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate that this is a full h pattern manual we see here. Congrats to the driver on taming this beast, I'm sure it wasn't easy.

In my opinion Viper is one of the last honest "street legal race cars". Viper is raw, no-bullshit machine built to break records. I'd love to test one some day.

What comes to the lap: Damn impressive. But I think you still could squeeze out some seconds. Set the car up right and wait for a right day and it will do a lap around the green hell in under 6:50.

The driver shifted beautifully and managed the turns, braking, with control. Much better than driving an automatic transmission. Wow that Viper is a quick snake on the road! Quality American engineering well done Dodge crew!

Fantastic and fast!  Raw and real... no awd, no dual clutch,  no active aero!

The fact that this is still the fastest manual car on the track to this date is just wild and timeless. Moreover, when an American automaker says they're gonna make a supercar or track car, they're GONNA make one.

Absolutely love this car. Building the Viper doesn't just inspire us auto enthusiasts, it inspires us as a nation!

That was the drivers first lap ever in that car.
Wish they had more time and money to make this attempt.

That's frigging awesome well done guys! What great driving. Sounded like 3-4 minor misshifts too? if so and for sure a sub 7 is possible which is insane as it's a h pattern manual! Love it guys! You are my heros.

Proving yet again that the Viper, throughout its heritage, is the undisputed apex predator of the enthusiast world.
Any time set that is faster is either with a full race vehicle, or a specifically track prepped vehicle. There has never been a super car that is capable of what the Viper is off the showroom floor. Furthermore, there has never been one that can do it consistently without falling to pieces after a few hard runs.
Having had the chance to drive several iterations, I can whole heartedly say there is no more fulfilling experience in the automotive world, for a true enthusiast who loves the very essence of motion. Though my personal favorite is the 1993 RT/10...
Pure and visceral kinetic poetry, no matter what year or package you choose.
Hail to the King!

There is no question that the ACR is a sub 7 minute car. If everything goes right (no miss shifts), it would easily land at around 6:55 every time.
