Columbus Day Parade coming to streets of NYC

New York City's annual Columbus Day Parade returns to Manhattan on Monday, celebrating Italian-American culture. CBS News New York's Elijah Westbrook reports from the start.

No disrespect to Italy or Columbus, he did make it to America in the 1400's, But I hate to tell you St Brendan the Navigator made it from Ireland to Florida in the 5th Century between 512 to 530, almost 1000 years before - St. Brendan the Navigator and 5 Irish monks in a longboat with oars made a Round trip to and from Florida to Ireland and wrote up their journey. The voyage was successfully recreated as proof of it happening using 6th Century boat materials and navigational aids in 1976. Look up The Brendan Voyage. The Irish had the good sense to find America and not blab about it for 1000 years.

Fun fact: Christopher Columbus never stepped foot in what would become the continental United States; his 4 voyages led to the "discovery" of the Caribbean, Central America, & South America, but Columbus himself never stepped foot in North America.
