This praying mantis has a horsehair worm! This parasite is one of the weirdest nematodes out there. It knows to come out of the mantis when it hits water. Animals are amazing, and the world of nature is full of some pretty weird creatures!

You get too much wrong. First of all, it doesn't make it "thirsty." It makes it mindlessly wander until it just happens to encounter a body of water. Secondly, it doesn't drown anything. The host happens to drown because they aren't equipped to be in water. But that has nothing to do with the worm.

Fun fact; Sometimes the hosts survive, but they usually don't due to damage to their internal organs or drowning.

the amount of misinformation is insane
the horsehair worm lifecycle starts in the water, where it leeches on to things like mayflies. its next goal is to be consumed by something like a cricket. its life could end there, eating the crickets fats, and controlling its mind to make it attracted to water
sometimes, mantids get unlucky and eat infected insects, which is where these clips come from. the same thing happens to the mantis, gets infected, they eat the mantises fat stores, and hijack its brain to make the polarised light of the water seem REALLY attractive. the mantises that release these worms die due to organ damage.
the worms mate in the water and the cycle continues.
