My chow knows when it's time for his morning walk and when it's time for his evening walk and starts to let us know he wants to go around those times.

We had dogs and cats growing up. The cats woke mom up for breakfast and my dogs knew my schedule changes for school summer, football and wrestling, baseball etc.

My English mastiff wakes me up at 4am to pee and for a couple hours outside everyday before work. It's like clockwork

100% agree, my dog wakes me up ay 7-8 am to be fed and knows that I go to work at 4pm and return around midnight. My schedule is very stable. 😂

My dog knows when who comes home from work at what times, even with shift work he'll know. He loves going down the street and sitting and waiting for their car to come into town and he'll only move when they come even if similar cars drive down the street he knows when it's the person he's waiting for.

They also have real-time consciousness. It's not a perfect analogy, but if you think of dogs as operating at a "higher refresh rate" meaning their awareness is faster and to them we sound "lower" and move slowly. They have faster simple reflexes than we do, however they can't process nearly the same amount of information simultaneously. This is why people almost never fail to recognize the people who live in their household, while dogs regularly mistake their humans for strangers if they're wearing hats/hoods, bulky coats, sunglasses, even beards! Among my dogs it was rare, my goldens would only not recognize a person in a sack. Well until they sniffed them, but costumes, winter gear, safety gear never even got much more than a happy wag. My German shepherd is hilarious about it, he will still know it's me no matter what, but he will pull hoods or hats off if I let him. Not to chew or steal, he just doesn't want people wearing hats. He is the funniest damn dog I've ever had, just in how much he seems to understand of what's going on. My goldens were very smart dogs but Hendrix is a different level of what he can learn.

They always know when school gets out. They also know the sound of every car in your street.

Mine even knows when is weekend because even if I leave the same hour as any other day he will be happy because he knows that he can join me for chores around my town. Example: if I leave a Monday at 7 for work he will be calm and just wait for me to leave but a Sunday if a leave the house at 7 he will be jumping and really happy. Somehow he knows which makes me think they can count days ahead even. Also he has a tight poop schedule which mean his body is set for different activities during the day.

So in general I believe they can count for units, time by hours and days and also they can really understand that sometimes schedule may change depending on the day or place
