A British news broadcast had an eerie "Don't Look Up" moment while interviewing a meteorologist about the current, deadly, record-breaking heat wave that is roasting the British Isles and the European continent. The anchors tried their hardest to flip the conversation and the weather into something to be happy about and not worry about, but the meteorologist was having none of it.

"It’s just the latest example of life imitating art.

British meteorologist John Hammond issued a warning about this week’s deadly heat wave in Europe during a GB News segment. But news anchor Bev Turner’s reaction was right out of “Don’t Look Up” as she noted what a nice day it was, downplayed the threat and then lobbed a bizarre accusation at his entire profession.

“I want us to be happy about the weather,” Turner said. “I don’t know whether something’s happened to meteorologists to make you all a bit fatalistic and harbingers of doom.”"

That newscaster is terrifying. The way she’s pushing the corporate agenda. No shame. She’s actually smiling about it. Insanity.

These networks are having a helluva time finding a meteorologist willing to lie for them.

That smile on her face as she says it. That’s an evil woman.

That lady is the epitome of toxic positivity. She cares more about her feelings than about saving lives through preparation. How do we foster resilience in adults so that they don’t run away whenever the news isn’t what they want to hear? #adulting #fragile…handle with care.

What a sick, manipulative person. Stay away from people like that.

I had a Canadian on Facebook downplaying the hot temps in UK and northern Europe. He shared a screenshot of all the times the UK experienced +30°C since 1900 as if to say "look at all the times this has happened before". I looked at his screenshot and it hit 32°C (93°F) 10 times between 1900 - 2000 and then 15 times since 2000. Yeah, that's certainly not an alarming trend. 😳

I live in the NJ tri-state and let me tell you, local news is going ballistic here. Between the flooding here and the fires in Europe and the heat on the West coast, they were telling the truth. Climate change is here and it's only getting worse. And I really appreciate their honesty.

Nobody I know has ever watched GB news. It’s basically AON except the general public isn’t interested.

Downplaying the potential danger means more people could potentially die by being under-prepared by both elderly and their carer's, Get ready- buy airconditioning, get water stay hydrated. Maybe stay in a hotel for few days. Check up up on that elder neighbour that lives alone.

Highest temperatures ever recorded in the UK. Scandinavia literally hitting Sahara-level temps. But, yeah. "Its called Summer". Right

A climate denier's idea of a discussion is a one way conversation with them spewing they're talking points.

Wow…. Kinda like how people downplay the pandemic.

An important thing to understand about WHY, hundreds/thousands didn't die is because of the warnings. People listened. They didn't flock to the beach, they sat in the shade, they bought fans, they covered themselves in sunscreen and drank plenty of extra water.

Turner vitriolically claiming that she was right about it being fearmingering, she was right he was wrong is moronic... which for Turner is par for the course.

The warnings worked. People headed them and kept safe which was the while point of the all of the warnings. Turner casually ignoring that London literally caught fire because of the heat to claim that it was blown out of proportion.

How do we save humanity from the influence of these appalling people?

The British guy said next week the temp is gonna be in the 40s and I'm sitting here thinking 40 F is actually cold not hot and then I heard John Iadarola say 40 degrees celsius. and then it dawned on me that in the UK they measure temp in celsius not Fahrenheit. so 40 degrees celsius is actually 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

Why are firefighters always talking about the danger of fires ? Fires are supposed to be fun. Firefighters are so pessimistic.

The peak temperature in 1976 in the UK was 35.9 Celsius. Also, it is well known that people die in heat waves. How does Bev Turner know that 1000s of people did not die in the recent heat wave in the UK? That data is typically only available quite some time after the fact.
