US Coast Guard (USCG) Drug Testing Regulations and Programs

Vessels on our waterways used commercially are regulated by the United States Coast Guard and require a licensed captain.  The captain and crew of these vessels are required by Coast Guard drug testing regulations to have drug screening programs in place.

Sometimes boat owners do not realize that if you use your recreational vessel for a passenger for hire, your vessel becomes a commercial vessel and you now become subject to significant Coast Guard regulation including drug and alcohol testing.

Marine employers are required by the Coast Guard drug testing regulations to have a drug & alcohol testing program.  All crewmembers need to be a part of the program.  Civil penalty fines of up to $5,500.00 per day can be issued to the marine employer who fails to implement or conduct chemical testing for dangerous drugs or for evidence of alcohol.

All right this is a very important question for me. I really do need someone to answer this. How in the world am I going to get a medical review officer define my CG 719p form. Most drug screening locations in my city Atlanta will collect my urine and send it to a lab is usually at cg719p form and then send that back to me after they complete the drug test with a result? This is very confusing
