How to force Windows (7, 8.1) to download the Windows 10 update files

Are you still seeing "OK, notify me when ready!" in your Windows Update app despite all your friends already getting the download? Here's a solution to get you around that.

Files to delete are here: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Hi I tried to update and I wasn't able to get windows 10 to load. I'm trying this from windows 7 with only half of the windows 7 updates installed. If you have to go back to install windows 7 from scratch it takes about 2 days to get to the windows 10 load. help Can I do a full drive mirror image of my drive after installing window 10?

I've done everything in the video, it even did the downloading windows 10 thing. what i'm confused about is that windows isn't giving me a option to do the install for windows 10. should i do this over again or what?

I've just used that command to force the install and at the beginning it worked but, the stupid internet connection crashed down and it couldn't install well. Later on I've tried to repeat the command and everything but it didn't worked after this.

What should I do? Thanks.

Doesn't work for me, just shows few regular updates. I am going to try applying the updates and trying again.

Mine does nothing.. It just says "there are no available updates".. All my other computers already downloaded Win 10, but mine only has the "reserved" icon but no download yet.

It didn't work for me, and I've tried it a number of times (many more than 3!).  I have Win 7 Professional 64bit at SP1.

Win update _used_ to show me the Win10 logo saying that Win 10 is not ready for my PC yet, but that disappeared a week or so ago to be replaced by the standard Win7 "Windows is up to date".

When I click to check for updates and then fire off the wuauclt.exe /updatenow, win update is still checking... but returns that "Windows is up to date".  Nothing changes.  I don't get any errors... it just doesn't work.  Yes, I'm running cmd as administrator. Win update just puts 4 files back into my SoftwareDistribution/download folder.

I might have the solution. I am using Win 7 and when i searched for cmd (and choose run as administrator) and pressed enter this trick didn't work. BUT when I took the "long way" it worked. Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt (choose run as administrator).
cmd and Command Prompt don´t seems to work the same way. Hopefully this little change will work for more than me.
