How long can you hold your breath? Surfer takes six waves on the head - Nazare

Показать описание
This wasn't any ordinary day in Nazare, this was one of the bigger swells of the season. After setting off on the wave, Toby Cunningham was unable to clear the tail end of this massive 50-60 foot monster. With nearly 25 years of big wave surfing experience, Toby knows that keeping a cool head is the most important thing in a situation like this. With his ears still ringing after taking 6 set waves on the head, Toby stated "I knew that I was just along for the ride ... it was actually a lot of fun getting my a** kicked"!

In situations like this, u r just a passenger: calm yourself, relax, hold your breath and don't fight cause the ocean is now in charge.

One thing is 4 sure: that monstrous life vest that they wear is extremely necessary in these kind of waves, no way any human can fight their way to the surface, one time after another, in those heavy conditions.

Been on a few trips through the "washing machine" myself on much smaller waves, maybe 4 meters. I remember once getting caught inside, jumped off my board, swam to bottom and tried to cling to the sand like a limpet, got peeled off and rag-dolled around. So much sand in the water that it's pitch black, no way to know which way is up. Eardrums shoved in so deep that it felt like they were hitting my brain. Wow, what fun! You won't catch me out at Nazare. It scares me just to watch.

Also: love the long look back at the ocean at the end by Cunningham. Can't tell if he's saying "F*** you, Ocean, for trying to kill me!" or "Thank you, Ocean, for not killing me!" I realize it was also a quick glass for his board before he thought, "no way I'll see that thing before it washes up!"

this gives me anxiety just imagining how much power those waves must have, surfing it is no joke at all. remembering my worst wipeouts with waves much much smaller than this and nahhh i'd never surf that

Breathtaking footage. Luckily he had time to breath in between the six waves

Crazy. Even the last wave to hit him on the shore looked brutal. Epic vid.

These waves are absolutely mesmerizing... It amazes me the power in each set. Interesting how this spot only recently has been made popular to the average person. Great videos friend.

Great drone footage and piloting skills, thought it was almost lost at the start.

Love the "Jetski - Drone" team.
First they encourage a surfer to go there and get his ass kicked, and then work together to rescue him.

Toby is such a badass. So cool to see how he handled that situation and thanks @jacuzzisurfer for filming it. Great job 👍🏻

Been caught in much smaller wave sets and it can get exhausting. Must seem like enternities between these sets and looking for the ski. Way to stay alive!

I like how even tho its been a few waves he moves his arms in a playfull way so the rescuers know he is alright and dont push the risk

😱🤯 good skills with the drones, gives a better insight to what a surfer goes through. He pops up faster than I thought. 🤮been held down before it’s scary stuff when you don’t know what way is up a few seconds after you’re past your breath allowance
