Waymo’s Autonomous Vehicles Could Be a “Game Changer” Says National Federation of the Blind

The National Federation of the Blind and Waymo are partnering to include the feedback and suggestions of people who are blind in the development of Waymo’s autonomous driving technology.

Through its collaboration and partnership with advocates for people with disabilities, Waymo has added accessibility features that let people receive added navigation details about their trip via audio, find their vehicle by sound, and more.

Waymo is going to bring accessibility to the blind, allowing them to participate more fully in daily activities. I'm extremely excited by this technology and the way it will benefits it our society.

I am a client of a blind center. Several of us have participated in the development of an app for the blind using an autonomous vehicle. Perhaps it is meant for one’s personal car. We were not told. Having a Waymo service for the blind would mean everything to us. I wept when I learned that this is already available in some places. Please, please make it happen everywhere. It is so badly needed! It is life changing; life enabling.

This is great. Waymo is in Phoenix, and the Phoenix bus service is nearly impossible for the blind to use because the bus drivers won't stop unless you're standing up and waving frantically as they approach.

We need these autonomous vehicles up here, not only in the city and county of Sacramento in the state of California, but in Placer, El Dorado, Yolo, and all surrounding points. This would be a game changer in my life, because I feel a burden. Insurance companies have to step up and allow for this to happen, as they are assholes, and everybody’s got one!

I can't wait until rainbow gives me the chance to dream about driving by myself using full self-driving because it would be very nice for me. However, I think it would be rather fun for me to have the car drive me instead of me driving the car!
