HOW TO IDENTIFY GROUND AND NEUTRAL WIRES: The only way to identify the ground and neutral wires without any special equipment is to connect a load, such as a bulb, between the already known Hot wire and then test one by one the ground and neutral wires (though initially unknown). When connecting a bulb between the hot and neutral wires, it will glow. If connected between the hot and ground, the bulb may briefly shine or not illuminate at all, because it will trip the breaker. However, this method only works if the electrical line has a GFCI (Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter) breaker in the service panel.
What this method does is allow current to flow from the hot wire through the load to the ground wire, which triggers detection by the GFCI causing the breaker to immediately trip. It's the easiest and safest method to identify the ground and neutral wires. Nevertheless, if the line has a regular circuit breaker, this method won't be effective.

I've asked many electricians to explain how and none had this simple way! thanks!

I had to watch several other videos before I found this one. This was just what I needed.

if the wires are not color coded.. how owuld you know if it's neutral or ground?

"How to identify ground wire" - connect black to ground wire. Now that helped! :D

You didn't show how you can identify the Neutral wire or Earth.
You only identified the Hot (live) wire.

Seems like you would get the same reading (i.e. zero) from a neutral or a ground. How do you tell them apart?

Great video but that’s not always the case you should always verify the hot by testing hot to what you think is the neutral. If you get a reading then you have a hot and neutral. Rarely but occasionally the neutral wire would be hot accidentally if that is the case you would not get a reading between 2 wires.

without actually knowing whether it is neutral or earth wire (black box), how do you identify it? Can you make a video for this? It will be helpful in some situations.

Great video. Just what I needed to make me feel comfortable poking around my outlets. I had a motor furnace blower motor wired reversed. nice to know it's fixed now.
