If you look at the corpses of headcrab zombies without the crab, you can see that there are small circular puncture wounds in an arc on either side of the head. My best guess is that the beak creates these holes to access the brain's main areas and tries to shut down anything unnecessary and simply makes the host aggressive. They may also alter growth by implementing growth hormones that feed off of softer and more nerve dense tissue in areas to salvage the materials needed to create the claws which is why the chests and faces of the zombies are always deteriorating faster than the legs and shoulders. The mind hijacking might not fully work, with the victim being in more of a dreamlike state than a dead sleep which means they feel everything but cannot think properly enough to understand what's going on, and attacking anything they see. Essentially, the cran limits brain functions in areas that are not necessary and then causes the host to feel aggressive, all while the crab is eating away at nervous tissue for materials to use with changing the physiology of the host to be more combat effective.

They can still eat without the beak guys. The beak is mainly a weapon for parasitic purposes, they can still eat just fine without it. That's how Lamar lived so long

Debeaking I think is just removing the sharp beak in their underbellies right?

The one thing that got me about headcrabs is how big they actually are. In normal 2D HL and HL2 they seem kind of small, but in VR they're pretty massive.

Headcrab survival tip:
Wear a helmet so that they cant get to your brain, a thick helmet like a bicycle helmet would be the best
edit: add spikes

I understand why you'd want to debeak them, having played the VR game, they're pretty cute.

For some reason a lot of people who aren't familiar with this parasitic monster often mistake it to be a chicken.

I love how humans keep them as pets it would be pretty cool to have one

The zombies are still conscious and just living through the nightmare until you put them out of their misery.

Debeaking doesnt really tame them as much as just removing their ability to kill you. Lamar still tries to attach to Barnies head. Thats like saying you can tame a lion if you just remove all it's claws and teeth.

The process is know, they down there spinal bone behind the host brain and connect it, also they use a beak to break the skull open that, when remove, make the head crab tameable.

The headcrabs aren't the same in the games. They have mutated while on Earth.

The original Xenian headcrabs (as seen in HL1) had eyes, and were stronger and much more precise. Possibly because there wasn't enough hosts on Xen so they needed to make sure they don't miss.

The Earth born headcrabs seen in HL2 (cca 20 years after HL1) don't have eyes anymore, are less skinny and aren't nearly as precise. There's much more hosts around on Earth.

Headcrabs in HL Alyx are already showing some of the changes but they are still closer to the HL1 crabs. They haven't transformed yet, though their eyes are gone already.
