DIY Thermostat Replacement (Suzuki's)

Показать описание
A Quick little tutorial on how to change out the thermostat if you are experiencing overheating or excessive heat dissipating from your engine. This may be due to a faulty thermostat not fully opening allowing cool fluent to travel through the engine. My bike never overheated but temperatures at standstill did reach 240 degrees at times. The heat coming from the right side of the bike was so bad that it was cooking my leg, destroyed my paint job and also cracked my fairing. After this fix I no longer have any issues with excessive heat.

The tools you will need for this repair are:

• 8mm socket/ratchet
• Pair of small pliers
• A bucket (for radiator fluid draining)
• Old rag
• Thermostat

Estimated time to repair: 25 minutes

Yo yo yo James. Thank you so much for this video as I'm about to change the Thermostat, I've also got the Haynes manual too but your video is a lot more easier to understand than the book. Thanks again 👍👌😎 Greetings from Roger London UK.

Just to give us a frame of reference, how long was it "dry docked", what year is your V-strom, and how many miles does the bike have on it? Nice info to know for any of us with a similar situation.

I recently purchased an 04 that sat for a couple years and it ran straight out of gate on several rides with no perceivable issues but I would still like to replace the coolant, radiator hoses, and inspect the thermostat for build up.

Depending on what Bile you have! Be careful, i have the Sazuki Madura GV700GL and there’s 3
bolts the open bolt in the back that don’t go into the housing that bolt in the back get rusted like mine and the first 2 came right out the 3rd one felt like it was coming out but it was the head of the bolt twisting off and of broke off the bolt. That led into a major job because the thermostat is part of the head. So i wound up having to buy a new head, new crush washers and gasket and take a lot of stuff apart to put on the new head. Then pray it don’t leak after you do all of that work. I went through it so if i can save one person from going through what i did then this comment will have been worth it. Good luck guys 😊

Hello ! Suzuki sx4, 1.6 petrol 2012, the water needle does not rise more than 1 line, I changed the water pump (so they said at the service), the thermostat is the 3rd, it is possible that it does not ventilate through that valve on the thermostat?

I hope you can help me, replacing thermostate on Burgman 650. Looks very easy, but problem is how do i remove enough plastic to get to it. Can remove the top cover but how do I get rid of the plastic framwork the hides the top right bolt on the therostat housing.

What's the best way to burp the air out of the system? Do it like a car and just fire it up with the radiator cap off or loose until it heats up and coolant circulates?

Hey James hollerin at you from East Tennessee I have an 01 Suzuki mauader 800 and it just recently started overheating within a mile of leaving my house. I've called bike shops looking for a thermostat. And well... they are clueless. They said my bike must not have one. Where would be the best to order from

Hey James, cheers for the DIY, plan on doing this tonight. Would you say this is doable with the gas tank lifted and the airbox on. Or doe both the tank and airbox need to come off completely?

"TOP MAN JAMES"👍👌on my (gsxr 1000 l1) I did manage to change the Thermostat...with ease, thanks to your video😎 Appreciate you having the time to publish it. I say about 1hour all in all as a few wires got in the way and didn't want to damage anything. But hey I'm a home DIY fixer with a hand disability and I managed it. Hope you can help me out with some other things. So I have subscribed to your channel and hope to use again soon. Grease and love 👊👌 (007 Roger)
