What is the best USB microphone for your home studio?

🎤 Links to the microphones I mention in this video:

⏰Covered in this video:
1. What is a USB microphone
2. What questions should you ask when choosing a USB mic
3. What are some of the features to look for when choosing a USB microphone
4. Review of some of the best selling microphones and which one I would recommend

🎧 When choosing a USB microphone for a Mac, PC or iPhone/iPad, it is important to ask yourself:
1. What will you be recording? Music may require a higher end mic with more features compared to podcasts, streaming or spoken word.
2. Will you need to monitor your audio? If so, you will need a microphone with a headphone jack built in
3. What will you be recording to? You can plug in directly with a Mac or PC, but will need a Lightning to USB adapter for an iPhone or iPad
4. What is your budget? USB microphones range from less then $50 to more than $250, so you need to decide on what features are important before you select the best mic for you

A few years ago I picked up the Samson Q2U which has the USB connection and a headphone jack as well as an XLR output. It came with a little desk tripod stand the mic clip all the cables and even a pair of headphones for around $70.

I wonder if the SAMSON Meteor would still be a good buy, the main use would be to record video covers and capture the audio at the same time from my electric guitar (coming from a speaker) and the speaker with backing track at the same time. Ocasionally also want to record vocals/video and instrumental all at once. Appreciate any reply

Pete - thanks for the great content- looking to get a usb mic for guitar and vocal recording - considering Samson g track pro, apogee hyper mic or blue yeti pro - which one is best for audio quality and which would you opt for ?

SIR
I want to do voice over. I want to record my poetry professionally. In which I get high quality. But in my poetry some lines will go in high tone and some lines will go in emotional low tone. And my room is not sound proof. Suggest me a good mic, headphone and audio interface.

Hi Pete, slightly off topic but I sometimes use my iPhone 5s to record found sounds when I'm out n about. I don't want to install Garageband on it because it doesn't have much storage space free. I've tried the standard Voice Memos app but discover that that won't send recordings to Garageband! Do you know of another app you'd recommend (one that allows you to turn up mic sensitivity would be cool), or a work around? Thanks

Pete - i am surprised not to see Rode NT USB in your list. This one is from your country only. :-) Recently i have bought a Rode NT USB and its a great quality microphone.
