With Pikmin 4 it should be noted how well ice pikmin combo with Oatchi's charge. If you have enough of them you can basically insta-freeze enemies on impact.

While I do generally agree that Reds are the strongest type in 1, I do think Bomb Rocks do a ton for Yellows especially if you're trying to go fast.

I also gotta give shoutouts to Yellows in Pikmin 2 for basically trivalizing the otherwise difficult Titan Dwevil.

In terms of combat in Pikmin 3, I want to give props to Rocks for being kinda stupid strong especially against the major bosses. In particular the Plasm Wraith which would be a pretty hard fight if the boss had any real way to kill Rocks.

And finally, While he's not a Pikmin, Oatchi deserves special mention for being gamewarpingly strong in Pikmin 4, able to do anything a Pikmin can do but way better.

You forgot to mention that in Pikmin 2 purple pikmin have no onion of their own so you have to be careful not to lose any of them given that they can only be spawned via purple candypop buds underground, even more so since you need to preserve every single one of them for the Doomsday Apparatus treasure in the Wistful Wild area given that you need 100 purple pikmin to transport which takes a very long time to finish, even when all of them are flowered. White pikmin are the same, but not as much given that they do make good sacrificial canon fodder, but still you shouldn't be so reckless and wasteful with them.

While wing pikmin are great for boss fights and cheesing still the rock pikmin do pack literal punches when thrown or charging as a group giving them some use that competes well with red pikmin. Plus they can't be crushed or impaled which makes them great in some battles, especially against the Plasm Wraith at the end of Pikmin 3.

Obviously he's not really a Pikmin, but Oatchi in Pikmin 4 is like. trivializes the game mechanics broken. I'd argue he's even more broken that P2 Purples and P4 Ice with how you can basically just use his charge with any layout of 100 Pikmin and instakill any enemy and most bosses - but he also works in conjunction with how busted the Ice Pikmin are.

One thing I liked about Pikmin 1 is how each type was pretty invaluable due to how they each tackle a different element of the gameplay. Reds are needed for combat, Yellows are needed for puzzle solving, and Blues are needed for exploration. Even if Reds are the most useful, all of them are supremely important - whereas I feel like later games (especially 4) made the different types more situational - leading to ones you'll use constantly and ones that get ignored often.

In my personal opinion, since an ice Pikmin can freeze things very fast if they're small, a one on one fight would go in the ice pikmin's favor. In a group fight however, the ice Pikmin could still win as long as there are no elevation changes, as the purple Pikmin could drop from a higher spot in order to create a shockwave to destroy multiple ice Pikmin at once. Pikmin have relatively low HP, so a few hits from either Pikmin could take each out.
