Music for a Beautiful Apocalypse - The End of it All

"Imagine if you will. A grim world full of darkness, with sickly black-an-yellow clouds as far as the sky goes, and an atmosphere of perpetual cold able to pierce through any shelter to reach the bones . An endless range of dilapidated skyscrapers barely holding together. In the streets, an unending crowd of filthy and gaunt peoples. Moving without goal, without joy, without life, more akin to corpses than living beings, only going through the motions of a rotten existence. There is no hope, and no tomorrow, for the night is everlasting, and the sun but a distant, nearly faded memory.

And then...

Light.

A luminous pillar of heat, tearing through the night. A lance of divine might bringing wonders to gawking eyes, destroying centuries of polluted air in nothing but an instant.

And then ...

Heat.

As the light pierce the sky, so too does its base expands. The telltale warning of a smooth heat approching ever closer, warming up bodies that have never known anything else than cold.

And then ...

Realisation.

The people know, every one of them, of what is coming. And yet not one of them run, not one turn away from the light. Not a single soul is afraid, for the end of their torments draw near. As if they were only one being, all smile softly and cry tears of sweet relief.

And then ...

At last...

As I laid there, hot blood trickling down my forehead I felt it cover my arms in it's sweet sticky defeat, I watched the sun set for the last time. Knowing now that I had truly won. I may not have beaten the tyrant, and I may have been unable to prevent the now inevitable destruction, but I had won. I pulled out my failsafe. My final chance to set things right. The detonation switch.
"You should never turn your back *Coughs out blood* on an opponent who hasn't given up. One who hasn't been slain, nor had his spirits crushed is a dangerous man."
He turned around, stared me in the eye, and realized what was happening.
"No! Put that down! Are you mad?! You'll end yourself too!!!"
I smiled at him and slowly pressed down the button.
"You took everything from me... and now....? I've got nothing left to lose. I beat you. And now.... I'll guide you down to Hell with me."
