The closest comparison to a single setting I've ever landed on for Lancer is Warframe, and that really just says it all.

0:00 - Launching of the 10 as earth descends into civil war (missed out on the 3 traumas but whatever)
(three traumas, suggested, what can I say, I'm a fan of homeworld)
(0:0x) - (homeworld: Rachel S'Jet entering the primary anomaly) The first Trauma, humanity discovering the massif vaults, and realizing the depth and severity with which their ancestors had thoroughly fucked them over
(0:0x) - (nuclear war scene from terminator 3) little wars, humanity discovering all the neat shit their ancestors found and deciding to put it to task as one would a particularly sharp rock, which is to say, stoving each other's heads in.
(0:0x) - (pivoting satellite dishes, very stressed man with headphones on, as a withered corpse fades in on the background) the third trauma, union gets it's union on, and everything looks up for a brief moment, before they realize someone turned comms off, flicks them on, then receives the full backlog of 7, 400- ish years of apocalyptic logs from every colony that relied on earth's continual shipments for their continued survival. The trauma of hearing countless colonies flounder and fail is generally why union went headlong into expansionism and space colonialism
0:07 - ISP-N formed as the first committee throws humanity wherever they'll fit (first expansion period)
0:10 - The first Union-Karrakin war
0:11 - as far as I can tell the second committee came about before or during the first Union - Karrakin war due to the Aunic people stealing some worlds out from under Union's nose
0:12 - Anthrochauvinism: pictures basically explain it pretty well, save for humanity not finding intelligent life- yet. Also includes the second expansion period.
0:15 - Egregorians: the first intelligent life humanity found (outside of NHPs)
0:16 - The second committee, having finally found intelligent life, got it's Anthrochauvinism on, and deployed TBK weaponry on Hercynia, TBK standing for Totak Biome Kill, basically imagine thinking that nukes are fucking boring, so you staple a thermobaric flamethrower onto a nuclear reactor, wind it up, and watch it go. Also in the TBK series, a mech that gives everyone including the pilot PTSD by tearing people in half; for riot control!
0:17 - Harrison armory forms after/during the second committee's overthrow, mostly formed of deposed members of the party. In the background you can see rows of cloning tanks, Harrison Armory being fond of using flash clones, traumatized, error prone, functional enough human beings grown in less than five years.
0:18 - RA, or MONIST-1, this event actually happend 1, 500 years before the hercynian crisis. RA manifested due to some jank with some super powerful perfectly predictive AIs accidentally thinking god into existence. Whoops. Union sticks it in a secure facility on Demios, and hopes everyone forgets about it, which turns out to be hard when it just takes the whole ass moon and teleports away.
0:19 - Demios Event - also known as “the Death Contract”, “the Deimos Bargain”, and “the Damocles Reminder”. MONIST - 1, being a god made out of math and computers comes back and decides to hack the planet, causing all the advanced AI to go a little crazy, and continues to hack planets until the entire solar system is hacked. Eventually Union decides to negotiate with the cthulu-math-god, and in return for not pursuing immortality, or whatever the hell's tied in with thanatologic, they get to use space magic for teleporters,

0:20 - and chunks of RA that fell off or infected robots that can think fast, but outside of human context. think 10, 000 calculations a zeptosecond, but they don't fit in with how we understand how time works, hence shackling so a. they understand humans are kind of important, and b. how to actually understand how basic bitch causality works.
Pictured is a ISP-N blackbeard, who is notable as the first time a player will see a NHP in the manual, the SEKHMET-class, see it's attached protocol, which " uses all available actions and movement to move toward the closest visible character – allied or hostile – and attack them with melee attacks". Hence the glowing red eye and the camera zoom. Most other NHPs (with a few notable exceptions; thanks Horus) aren't this psychotic.

0:21 - the first contact Accords are part of the Demios Event, part of the agreement to to not pursue immortality or research death.

0:21 - the second committee is overthrown for shitting humanity everywhere with little to no concern for human life, pre-exsisting civilizations, launching PISTION-1 (a mass shotgun style kinetic strike) towards Aunic space (launched in 2880u, and as far as I can tell, hasn't even hit yet; space is big, kids), burning down Hercynia and genociding a bunch of wierd bug-moth people. It sort of continues on under Harrison Armory, who still does the whole invading a planet, erasing their culture and absorbing them into their corpro-state thing.

0:23 - The third committee is formed after around 40 years of civil war, reestablishing the utopian pillars, halting expansion, and shifting gears from telling the galaxy to behave at gunpoint to telling them to behave or they'll take their allowance.

0:24 - Horus showed up after/during the Demios Event, but they might have actually have existed before that happened, both from actors claiming to have been active before that time, and the existence of metavaults that predate the event. They're wierd as hell, twice as horrifying, and thrice as unexplained and inexplicable.
Metavault, ??? - metavaults are fucking weird, basically imagine spaceborne R'lyeh, but piloted by a malevolent intelligence that will kill the hell out of you or just leave you trapped in a never-ending 'nam flashback.

0:26 - The long rim, the dark alleyway of the universe, peppered with zero habitable planets and plenty of derelict space stations between the nearest blink gate and the dawnline shore, a battleground between the union and the Aun

0:27 - either the Second Distal War between the Aun and Union, The start to No Room for a Wallflower, The second interest war between the Karrakin Trade Baronies and Harrison Armory, the countless dictators or kings abusing their people and power on diasporan worlds, take your pick really

0:30 - No room for a wallflower: "IT’S GONNA GET REAL FUCKING DARK."

jesus christ I didn't think I would shit out this much of a text wall

Well, abaddon proved in K6BD that he can create interesting backstories to his settings. In LANCER it's like he said "alright, let's see what my worldbuilding limits actually are".
And yeah, I know it's not just him making LANCER. Still.

So like, i do and don't understand at the same time.

Which is the most Lancer shit posible.

This is what happens when you let Brandon Graham and a cocktail of 2000 AD writers make a Battletech game.

There is... a game? And lore? I thought that Lancer is just cool concept art of different factions

Star trek + Titanfall + Eclipse Phase. It's ideal.

So the thing Ive been seeing still is that Lancer is more in depth battles than Roleplay and thats literally up to the players and the GM. The GM can most definitely have on the ground out of mech stuff and allow for out of mech exploration like your pilot has weapons and stuff its supposed to be a pretty even split especially since the setting is sore lore rich and a lot is open ended for GMs to fill in

Memes like this tend to work better when the Lore and the gameplay are totally or conceptually different. I'm not sure that really applies here.

no one plays in lancer OG lore as written.... i spoken to communists that find the settings version of a communist utopia unappealing for how both blunt and inept it is.

gameplay: heh my battle mech strategy is pretty good, next turn this battle is pretty much over

lore: *IN THE FAR GRIMDARK FUTURE THERE IS ONLY WAR*
