Hercules is a 1997 American animated musical fantasy comedy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation for Walt Disney Pictures. The 35th Disney animated feature film and the eighth animated film produced during the Disney Renaissance, the film was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The film is loosely based on the legendary hero Heracles (known in the film by his Roman name, Hercules), the son of Zeus, in Greek mythology.
Development of Hercules began in 1992 following a pitch adaptation of the Heracles mythological stories by animator Joe Haidar. Meanwhile, Clements and Musker re-developed their idea for Treasure Planet (2002) following the critical and commercial success of Aladdin (1992). Their project was removed from development in 1993, and Musker and Clements joined Hercules later that same year. Following an unused treatment by Haidar, Clements and Musker studied multiple interpretations of Greek mythology before abandoning Zeus's adulterous affair with Alcmene. The project underwent multiple story treatments and a first script draft was inspired by the screwball comedy films of the classic Hollywood era and popular culture of the 1990s. Donald McEnery, Bob Shaw, and Irene Mecchi were brought on board to revise the script. British cartoonist Gerald Scarfe was recruited as production designer and produced over seven hundred visualization designs of the characters. Research trips to Greece and Turkey provided inspiration for the background designs. Animation for the film was done in California and Paris. Computer animation was used in several scenes, predominantly in the Hydra battle sequence.

I just adore how Phil doesn't react until he realizes Herc is in mortal danger at 1:48 that proves he truly loves and cares for him ❤❤

You know, Hades plan is always perfect from the start.
He saw Olympus is weak and too arrogant to given any thought or investigation about Herc kidnapping or constant monster attack on Herc (despite Herc tell everything about his battle to Zeus, he didn't find it odd at all lol), but it's always his subordinate that didn't do the job done ( Pain and Panic got startled which led to Herc not finished the last drop and cyclops clearly toying around with Herc even though Hades already ordered him to kill the weakened Herc ).

0:01 pretty cool how Thebes architecture is like 5 to 10 bigger in this scene than it actually is in real life

One thing bother me is that why wasn't he granted godhood while facing cyclops. I mean, in spite of not having his power, he still willing to sacrifice himself to protect not just one but thousands of people. That took the same kind of "strength of heart" as rescuing Meg.

I always forget how that no sounds so desperate and real, might be the realest sounding no I’ve ever heard.

And Hades' plan most likely would have succeeded if not for this one little moment. 2:48 That one moment threw an entire wrench into this plan.

I really felt that pain when he said “dreams are for rookies” he sure was heartbroken. Something I can relate to every time I met a girl

I always feel sorry for hercules in this scene, he presented himself to the cyclops hoping it would end him quickly but instead the cyclops beats him in the most humiliating way possible; by kicking him with his dirty ass foot and bouncing him off his ass.

2:30, you're not laughing now, are you Cyclops?

Fun Fact, Cyclops is voiced by the actor who played Painty the Pirate from Spongebob's intro.

The sequence at 0:07 is pretty dark considering that all those poor people who were in the temple died when the cyclops threw it away against the floor. Pretty brutal by Disney's standards.

2:37 even without his magical strength Hercules is still far tougher than a normal human he survived.getting thrown into a board and gettigg by beaten up and he is able to pull down the cyclops with his bare hands all the workouts Phil made him do must have really paid off pushing his body to its limits even without magic

Loved when he single handedly defeated the cyclops without his strength

I kinda feel like Hercules is a rendition of Samson from the Bible. Both were born with an immense amount of strength, feel in love with a woman that would back stab them, lost their strength, but then regained their strength back.

If you look closely, you can see blood on Hercules face at 2:01

The animation is so satisfying and pleasing to the eyes. This is when Disney have heart.
