How to Create Low Poly Art in Affinity Photo

In this tutorial, we'll learn how to create low poly art in Affinity Photo. Low poly art originated in the earlier days of 3D animation and 3D computer graphics. It was created to decrease the rendering time it took to create 3D scenes. The low poly technique used the lowest possible number of polygons to create these scenes. Today, aside from video games, illustrators and 3D artists still use low poly in their compositions. This effect helps them to create depth and texture in their work while still keeping a minimalistic look to their artwork.

A good way to make this type of thing look better is to avoid having several sides that are at a very shallow angle to one another. If you do have dominant lines showing up regardless, try to make them follow the path of action or in this case, point towards the eye instead of horizontal.

It's interesting that you used "Polly" to create the Low Poly Art.

I’m more about Affinity Designer so how would create low poly there, using the pen tool? You have a really great way of explaining things step by step, so could you do a similar tutorial using Designer? Thanks, love your tutorials! I learn so much about all the different tools!

Nice work. Please, is there any way to get smooth edges after you use Erase Flood Tool.
Everything look like stairs in the edges after using this tools. Is there any anti aliasing option in Affinity?
Thank you
