While we are entering a new world of amazing text-to-video with the actual availability of Runway Gen-3 (yes, I'm throwing shade at Sora), it's important to look at some shifts: loss of motion brush, no image to video, and of course, the credit situation.

00:00 Introduction to honest Gen-3 review
00:41 Pricing and credits
01:45 How is generating video different in Gen-3 vs Gen-2
02:21 Gen-3 Prompting Guide is very helpful
02:54 Prompting instead of Camera Control and Motion Brush
04:10 New pricing for Gen-3 makes iteration and experimentation expensive!
04:45 Post your Ls! Generations don't always work out well
05:11 Using a prompt directly from the prompt guide
06:00 Gen-3 first impressions in a nutshell

THE FIRST 9 PROMPTS I USED IN GEN-3

1. Follow shot: The camera follows a weird furry creature as it walks into a vibrant nightclub. Colorful lights and a lively atmosphere fill the scene. Camera whips around dynamically and stops on a closeup of the creature's face as it smiles.

2. Hyperspeed follow shot: The camera races through a neon-lit city, dodging skyscrapers and vehicles. It follows a sleek humanoid robot in a black trench coat leaping off a building and gliding through the air. Cinematic, with vibrant neon lights and bustling city life. The camera slows dramatically, circling the robot as it lands on a rooftop, revealing its illuminated eyes. Slow zoom on the robot's face, capturing determination in its glowing eyes.

3. cinematic close-up of a realistic indie film star ascending from a field into the air as their eyes glow eerily

4. top view timelapse video of a hand drawing an art work with colored pencils, the artwork shows a cat destroying a city with laser beams shooting from its eyes

5. a man walking forward on a city street transforms into a floral topiary bush in the shape of himself

6. Low angle static shot: The camera is angled up at a woman wearing all orange as she stands in a tropical rainforest with colorful flora. The dramatic sky is overcast and gray.

7. Slow zoom-in: A lone artist in a cluttered studio, surrounded by canvases and paint. The camera focuses on the artist's face, revealing a mix of concentration and passion as they add final touches to a painting. Warm, diffused lighting highlights the textures of paint on their hands and the determination in their eyes, capturing the essence of creative inspiration.

8. Top view timelapse video of an old man's hand drawing a Cubist art work with colored pencils

9. SnorriCam of a man running down the middle of a New Orleans street as he's being pursued by a giant swamp creature, the camera is focused on his face

When I first tried Runway, before Gen-3 was released, I was shocked at how many credits you got for your money. Now, with Gen-3, it makes even less sense. The price might have been justified if each generation perfectly matched the prompt, but that’s not the case. Additionally you have to upscale and enhance each clip in another software.

The 2250 credits in the included plan equals 450 seconds of Gen-2 ! That's not much at all unless you are trying to make 15 seconds YouTube shorts. Has anyone tried the unlimited plan and the explore mode at the relaxed rate? This might be a solution if the generation time isn't too long, at least you get unlimited generations.

Excellent presentation and thank you for keeping it real.
I completely agree with what you’ve said considering pricing and restrictions.
It’s for this very reason that I prefer to stick to my free tools that somehow work quite well for me.
Once this stuff eventually becomes easier accessible, I might start working with it.
When paying top price, I expect to have very few limitations and plenty of options.

really great vid, love the gen3 prompt guide that was a cool tip. i like how you looked at it from a neutral perspective and described your personal experience with the iterations you actually get vs price points.very pricey, but thats not to hate on the amazing technology its just like how you said, we need iterations to make the complete videos thats just how the process works since the video gens can be so random you need to keep rerolling the same prompt or tweaking it or whatever so there no way around it, and thats part of the fun is making a buncha variations and tweaking it or getting something you didnt expect that looks weird and making it work, just very pricey if you actually wanted to spam generate theres no way unless your like the high tier plan which is more than my car insurance cost, but supply and demand i guess, they have the supply, the demand is there so its fair business

Good grief - you are so right! The influencers ignore all the fails and praise it to the skies for one random shot (a simple campfire when God only knows what their prompt was about (a simple hammock?) Good for you for calling 'em out on their ridiculous pricing.

I guess it’s a reflection of the real cost to Runway of running the servers, so might have to wait a little longer for the tech to get more efficient and cheaper to run.

@aivideoschool Can you suggest a good way to run less credit intensive tests before committing to the final output?

i truly agree but they added something now can you tell about it now to ? and ya prompt are something next level but they didnt told us in first that we have to put prompt on that perspective point of the character or as order so that one thing i find bad

Like you, ive been with Runway nearly since day 1. I think Runway gas gotten a bit arrogant, and the quality just isnt worth the price.

which other tools would you recommend in terms of pricing, value and quality? I’m with you on iterations, I stopped using pika and kling ai due to this. RunwayML has been good so far, which others?

Runway is really awful - I’ve tried animation and the hands, fingers and joints always muck up

It costs so much for lots of drafts that fail. It’s really shiii - what do I do?

I subbed to Runway for 2 months then cancelled due to costs, it's just not affordable for the average content creator, especially when you take into account all the other AI subscriptions, I might be able to create GREAT content with it, but, I won't be able to afford to live, or even EAT the way prices are atm ha ha

I'm so disappointed afte subscription due to its hype. It's not worth it unless you pay for unlimited. I learned that you need unlimited iterations for animation to make it right. Cancel Gen-3 for now :)
