The Whynter ARC-14S portable AC impresses with its solid build quality and sturdy hoses. However, the window kit's cheap plastic construction is disappointing, and the exhaust air duct's limited reach could be improved. Despite these drawbacks, the unit effectively cools spaces beyond its recommended capacity.

I've owned the the Whynter unit for over 3 years. It has served us well. But we recently purchased the Midea and it is hands down much better than the Whynter in every category. The Midea is much quieter at around 43 db versus the Whynter at around 52 db both on low settings. Also, the Midea cools our upstairs room in hot Texas much better. The Whynter vent that blows hot air can get very hot emitting heat while the Midea vent stays cool. The Midea is just newer technology and is more efficient.

All portable ac units need a hose to the window to vent out the hot air.

What about Danby ? I have had one for 8 years and it still works wonderful. It is also a humidifier, fan and heater. And it has a special one quart liquid container for when you use the a/c feature....when it is full you just pull it out and empty it. A great buy !
