Ice is a MASSIVE key to all of these coolers. I always have a gallon of water in the freezer and let it get about half way frozen then break it up & that’s the water I use to refill it and I have large ice cube trays ready to help keep things as cold as possible. You need to have proper circulation too, do not keep your room enclosed make sure your door or a window is open and have a fan going. Honestly todays swamp coolers (evaporative coolers) aren’t as great as when I was younger, I remember my grandma having one and she would just put a handful of ice in it’s top tray and her ENTIRE One bedroom apartment would be absolutely freezing while it’s like 100 outside & this is in Northern California Stockton in the Central Valley.

Thank you so much you helped me not to move into an apartment with only a AC... in the living room

Spot on info; especially the conclusion. I ordered a portable evap cooler and it only feels like a slightly cooler fan even in my arid climate. If you want something that actually cools well, you'll need an AC or a giant swamp cooler unit.

Portable evap coolers work best in areas like Arizona, parts of Texas, for example El Paso. If your not in an arid region then better stay clear of evap coolers.

Living in the desert Joshua Tree for 15 years everyone has a swamp cooler out there if you want to save $ . Best advice is use block ice in the tray and like he said the window ones work the best, get a paper go to the other side of the house open the window a little bit it will direct the flow to those rooms make sure the paper is blowing outward sometimes you only need it open a couple inches

I'm 2 years late. Cooling fans are getting a lot of promotion just now in my country. Thnx 4 the review. Thing is such an item is needed. Most are unable to pay for the electrical bill if we ran an A/C.

Thank you So Very Much for your reviews, I had been looking online for something to add cooling to my bedroom as it doesn't get as cool anymore with our older HVAC system & after being impressed with your findings, I recently purchased the VAGKRI 2200CFM & I love it! The swing mode is great & Cooling mode (I love how it has the large reservior for water)
**PERFECT FIND** Thanks to you!! Please keep making your videos, much love from TX;

It would be good to know what the relative humidity in the room was. The higher the humidity, the less effective an evaporative cooler will be -- hence why they are used a lot in the desert Southwest, but not in places that have much humidity.

Great video. Evaporative coolers need to move a lot of air. The good news is you can get a really big one for about $3-400 and they use a lot less power. It needs to be a dry environment though. 10% humidity or lower is best. Place them by a door or window where they can intake hot dry air. Open a window on the other side of the house to let cool moist air escape.

Thanks, I was looking at a desktop design, but I guess it's not going to make any difference. And the prices I was wanting under 100 dollars.... Saw one where you can put crushed ice, but I think that compared to my big real AC these won't give me a cold experience.
Ty very informative

I have made swamp coolers with Styrofoam chest, ice, and fan and the air right by it is so cold! I live in WA but my condo unit can stay cool with fans running and keeping curtains drawn. I wonder if one of these will work as well as a homemade swamp cooler, or should I invest in an ice maker?
