They didn’t just “decide” to back some of the money with gold. All of the money was originally gold and silver, or was backed by it, and every note printed without being backed by gold or silver just increases inflation. It use to be the peoples gold, that was our fallback if the economy collapsed now its not. Guessing you heard of Libya before? The real reason is because Gaddafi was going to stop selling oil in US Dollars and was going to create his own currency that was backed by 6billion in gold that went missing after the Americans had invaded to protect the oil.
