This is an Irish folk song from the late 1700s. Covered by many, many people but this is a very unique and beautiful version as is typical for Voiceplay.

I'm most familiar with the Thin Lizzy version, though I know the Dubliners and Metallica ones too. This one is the first to make me cry, and I have no idea why! RIP Phil and Gary. Please react to _Dragonborn_ _Comes_ and _Dream_ _On_ sometime, for more Omar and VP goodness!

Even Peter, Paul, and Mary did a version of this under a different name. I'd never heard it before these guys did it. It is absolutely wonderful. Thanx for jumping on it so quickly!
Omar has done Dragonborn Comes, Carry On Wayward Son, Dream On, and Superstition with them.

I heard a few versions by Irish groups that I loved. This new rendition is very good. It is growing on me.

Dear friends, I am feelin sooo old. This song was made famous by Thin Lizzy in my youth (that was 50 years ago). Originally sung by The Dubliners as a irish folksong, transformed into a rocking by said band. It realy seems the heroes of my youth are all forgotten. Thank the Good Lord for bringing back good music with the help of VoicePlay!!!
You my dears, stay safe and healthy.
Sincerely, Elmar from Germany

First time listener and I really enjoyed your reaction esp. your interplay. Loving your view outside - you must live in a place with a lot of rain!

The original song is from around the 17th century, you guessed it right! It's an Irish Folk song about a highwayman who successfully robbed a government official and was betrayed by his lover/wife and arrested the next morning.
It was covered many times since the 1950s, the most known versions by THIN LIZZY in 1972 and METALLICA in 1998 (maybe we add Voiceplay in 2023 to that list). 😁- Thank you for your reaction! Fantastic to watch as always - and very fast after release, too! 🥰 Have a nice weekend and see you next time for sure! 👋

I believe the background they used is the same one that Geoff used for his christmas cover last year.

This was a great reaction! The non-sense words have been lost to time. There are several versions and no one is really sure what the original words were or what they meant.

It's an old Irish Folk song. I heard it when Peter, Paul and Mary Played it on one of the albums in the 60.😀

It's an old Irish song about a highwayman who robbed a man - he was hung in 1650. My Irish great-uncle sang that song to me when I was little and that's the story he told me. Geoff's last year's Christmas song was set up in that same room. One to look forward to soon!
Don't tell me you haven't done Dragonborn Comes Skyrim - Omar is the archer.

Omar has done Superstition, Dragonborn Comes, and Dream On with them. I think you may have reacted to at least one of these, so you have heard him before! He is such a powerhouse and was recently on the The Voice last season.

I love Celtic Thunders version if this.

As much as I enjoyed this, it felt more about their voices than the song🎉

From google: The traditional Irish tune was famously covered by Thin Lizzy in 1973 – and Metallica, who also covered 'Whiskey In The Jar' on their Garage Inc album in 1998 – dedicated the performance to late Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott.

The Metallica version is amazing, more to my taste than the voiceplay version which sounds nice but feels more of a "happening" than it's own thing to me. I do not know the Thin Lizzy version.

This a a traditional Irish song so many covers out there from Metallica and Thin Lizzy to The Dubliners, Irish Rovers and Celtic Thunder. Evidently the part is just phonetical singing.
