We had a neighborhood/church friend who had an apple ii with a TON of games. I thought this game was so amazing for its time. I was just a kid then and loved how it looked, being able to make him bow, etc. This is how I remember it too, green screen and all.

Love the sound of the disk drive as the head searches for and loads the program. 👍

This really takes me back. We had the same set up you have. Green screen. Dual disk drive. I did have a joystick though. Wish I still had mine.

Great memories here. Thanks for this video. Was able to relay to my kid exactly what gaming I was doing at his age. Rookie mistake not getting into fighting stance from the run sooner. :-) I recall it took quite a while to figure out the timing on how to drop that darned bird.

I remember putting in tons of hours on this game. Thats why I did poorly in school. I recall at the end you have to fight the big bossand his bird..lol.

That was my favorite game! The bird at the end was a real bummer to get past, had to do a lot of high kicks to get it to go down. Good times!

Spies Demise was another great one, good stuff!!

I love the sound of the Apple II internal speaker! It may have had only one voice, compared to the three of my Commodore 64, but when I played Summer Games at my cousin's place the national anthems somehow sounded better in the Apple version than my Commodore version.

Oh my lort... My friend and I got the code for this in a magazine when i was in high school mid 80's. Typed it all in and played it on the school's Apple 2es. The teacher would catch us and confiscate our floppy discs, so I had the evil genius idea of copying it to all of his loaner master discs. We played for almost a month during class and he would catch us and confiscate his own disc. When he finally caught on he wasn't even mad because he thought it was so funny/ evil

God Bless Steve Jobs, he's a saint, but he never did like video games. The Atari 800 just killed the Apple II on games. Of course, the flip side is that Atari was never taken seriously as a computer company, while Apple was able to successfully break into the nation's schools. So there's a give and take there. The home computers of the 1980s were a unique breed, really wonderful. Thanks for sharing!

Many consider Prince of Persia to be the inventor of the rotoscoping technique. If so, then how do you explain this, released 5 years before the first version of Prince of Persia? Karateka has rotoscoping animations, right?

Back when computing was simpler...and no chance of viruses. The good old days.

@Bastiest Oh please, 1 mHz is freaking fast back then . In fact, Karateka runs perfectly on this guy's system! No, it is not slow . In fact, the graphics are incredibly smooth (in this video) . I mean, no controls are skipped! Awesome animation .

Damn, I wish my Mom hadn't gotten rid of our Apple II. Karateka was the balls.

So, how many keys do you really need to play this game? 😃
