Thinking that a statue is a god is idolatry.
Providing a blessing from God through a statue is not.

The mental gymnastics required to say kissing and praying/kneeling down in front of statues isn't the same as OT examples of idolatry is amazing.

Worship, reverence, or asking favor of anyone or anything but GOD ALMIGHTY is idolatry !

Any prayers directed at anyone other than GOD ALMIGHTY is idolatry!

The problem is this idea of the distribution of Grace by Mary. We are instructed by the Catholic Church and Sacred Scripture that it is the Holy Spirit whom Christ sends into our hearts, interceding for us and crying Abba, (Father). He it is who is our light. Then, to mistake the identity of this person acting within us who is God for the person of Mary, is to mistake God to be Mary. To take God for Mary is to take Mary for God.
