Create Unlimited KDP Coloring Book Images Using FREE Photographs

One of the biggest problems with creating KDP coloring books to self publish on Amazon is getting good quality images that can be used commercially and that are original. I show you how to find copyright free images online and then use a technique with the pen tool in Affinity Designer to create a colored image and black and white lined image. These are great for the covers and interiors of your coloring books. Using this technique could literally give you an unlimited supply of images that you can create yourself and create books to sell online.

🛠️ Tools and Resources I use:

This is awesome. I used to do colouring in for hours as a child. I also did painting by numbers. Never thought I could make a living out of keeping inside the lines, but I went on to work for a small animation studio, where, at peak times I would be hired by my husband to help him with the hand painting of all the little shapes, rather like this lion. And now I can use these techniques to come to the subject from a different angle. I have got so many ideas just from watching your videos, thank.

Thank you for the tutorial. I found that Midjourney blending works so nice for a similar, faster, less manual approach. I spent a total of 2 minutes in my photo editor, for cropping and quickly erasing parts of images needed for blending.

Well its a bit of a flaff using a pen tool if you are beginner using a mouse on a lots of details, however for a complete none techy way you could use old school .
1 print the picture fairly large size low quality on a piece of paper
2 get a 2b pencil gently rub pencil on its edge on the reverse of the paper so it covers the image area on the side
3 get a clean piece of paper a clip board put the clean piece under print image
4 carefully sketch around the outlines of the edges you want to transfer onto the paper using a bit of pressure with the pencil or pen
5 go over the transfered outline image with a black pen use a rubber to remove unwanted smugdes, get your outlined image scan that into your computer
6 retouch the image removing any grey bits in basic photo editor
7 put into your favourite background remover
8 oulined image good to go for colouring book
9 for colour make a copy image and use a paint editor to fill in desired colours
Or print the outlined image then colour in by hand and scan the image back computer
Also a bit of a flaff but more do- able for the less techy then fiddling trying to draw with mouse .

This is awesome! I have already made some line drawings of my own art and photos, wondered if there was a faster way to create a coloring book... and here you are! I have Affinity as well so I'm excited to give this a try. Thank you! Subscribed ;)

Thank you so much for this video! I'm going to try this in Procreate with the selection tool and color fill. I didn't think of using Gaussian blur though.

Wow. This was awesome, time consuming, but awesome. This just has so much potential. Thank you. I wish I had Affinity Designer. I may try to get Inkscape, if I can't figure it out on Photoshop. Thanks again.

When downloading from Canva...we choose PDF Print but should we flatten it and choose CMYK? Or leave it all unchecked and keep as RGB? We have had some issues downloading 120 page books when we chose CMYK (which we thought it should be for KDP). Thank you. Great video.

Hi Paul...I have gained so much knowledge from you!! I wanted you to know I appreciate all of your info.
I used your affiliate-link to Publisher Rocket just now. I could have used many other great YouTubers, but I chose you as a way of saying; Thanks, Paul :)

HOLY SMOKES! 120 page coloring book?? So, you"re suggesting replicating this lion technique 120 times? By the time we got done with the last image, we'll all have flying cars!
